Local Rider(S) Down
« on: June 02, 2008, 11:39:18 AM »

This little town of 1200 people only has 5,500 people in the entire county. We've had two riders to go down within one week.

The first guy ran off the road, hit a small tree, bounced off and hit a telephone pole with his face. He was wearing a full face helmet. He broke several bones in his cheek. He was messed up pretty badly, but is home and doing ok now.

Last Saturday night, another guy just straightened out a curve. They were wanting to air lift him to Nashville, but, the weather was too bad so they brought in a surgical team to a small local hospital. He had four broken ribs and they removed his spleen. He was critical for a time, but is doing OK now.

I know both of these guys, but don't really socialize with either one very much. Either one of them could have been drinking, or they might have been stone sober, I don't know. Either way, it just makes me stop and think about how vulnerable we are riding these machines.

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up. Be careful out there and watch your every move. All it takes is one second of not paying attention and you could be messed up for life. Watch the other driver. Watch the dogs and deer. Watch your riding buddy. Watch for things in the road. Watch for things falling off trucks. Have fun, but be careful. Helmet or no helmet, if your head hits a tree at 75 MPH, it's not going to be good. I've made some great friendships with some of you site members. I don't want to be attending your funeral.

Ken

I read the above, then I read the Hoist post where he states he could almost keep up with you on the V rod.
Great job on outrunning him but damnit, I don't want to go to yours either.
See you in CHL!

I'm not a member since they dumbed down.
But you have a good point.
I try to be careful also.

Seeing that, as Hub said, "he brought a gun to a knife fight", Cybil did damn well against a 140HP, high RPM, 200lb lighter bike! Couldn't walk her by any stretch of the imagination. If she can stay that close, I still want one against my little 89" ProStreet!. I'm thinking a lightweight A/C V-Twin can take these SEVRods! My ProStreet is much faster than Cybil. That'll be a good one If I can get someone to go with me up here.

And no, none of us likes to see anyone go down for any reason. We all have responsibility to keep our machines up, and ride like everyone's trying to kill us. But outrunning Cybil on an SEVRod really has nothing at all to do with Ken's topic here. You can die on anything. Do your best and be responsible. Then, when your number's up, it's up! Remember, one day we all wake up dead! ;)

I agree with that...a 1/4 mile stretch dragging isn't nearly as dangerous as other drivers, deer, riding drunk, and countless other perils.

"Hoist", and "Reserved" are two words that don't belong in the same thread, much less the same post.

140 H/P?                Come on Hoist, this is the CVO site, we know better.
200 lbs difference?   I would bet with you on Cybil and Ken on the V rod there wasn't much difference in weight.
Has nothing to do with Ken's post? Come on again Hoist. Your both grown men racing each other on public streets.
It has everything to do with his post. We ALL do stupid things and fortunately the two of you were lucky that nothing happened.

I quote Ken,

Quote
Be careful out there and watch your every move. All it takes is one second of not paying attention and you could be messed up for life.

Hoist, you were outrun. Now you want to talk about your prostreet?

And to quote Ken again,

Quote
All it takes is one second of not paying attention and you could be messed up for life.

Chit happens!

We (and you) just need to be careful!

Alright you all you big macho bikers, cut the bravado ch!t. Be careful, we care about all members-PERIOD! Thanks Ken for the reminder, Duane posted one yesterday in rider down. It only takes a second no matter how good or how cool we think we are. There are many lessons to learn from if not from our local riders surely from this site. I personally don't want to see any of you, my friends, go down. So B F'n Careful.

You may now return to your regulary scheduled program.

No med issues, just chithead issues. Tired of the broken record routine. Gettin old. Maybe instead of ignoring it, which does nothing, I'll disrupt everything here to answer all the BS addressed at me. It seems being a chithead around here works for ya'll. Maybe I'll start being a chithead too! ::)
