Billet Chromed Tour Pak Hinges-Potential Issue!
« on: June 03, 2008, 06:02:56 PM »

Has anyone else experienced the hinge pin almost falling out? When I got to KY, I noticed the rear hinge pin had walked itself rearward, almost all the way out. I took a punch at Ken's and knocked it back in. Now I check it all the time. Made it back home from KY (110 miles) and it was only slghtly walked out. How are we gonna make sure these things don't fall out on us on the road? Ideas? :confused5:

Keep an eye on them gang! :nixweiss:

Have not noticed a problem with mine....yet.  I have rode about 1200 miles since I installed mine.  Now I have to go home tonight and check to make sure the pin hasn't moved on mine.

Oh BTW,  let's not let d00d know if there is a problem......wouldn't want him to have a good reason for not eventually getting Chrome Billet Tour Pak Hinges :D

Not happened yet but thanks for the heads up Howie.  My lower hinge screws did come loose but was probably afraid to tighten to tight as the small allens strip out easily.

Howard
Thank you for the update. Having my TP lid dangling by the cable would sure put a knot in my knickers for that particular day.

I would expect that a dab of silicone sealant (the kind that sets up) on each end would prevent the issue you describe from occuring while still allowing (via a pic) the ability to remove the silicone and push the pin out to separate the top of the TP from the bottom

Take the hinges off the KTP.  Reinstall the pin.  Place one side on a hard, metal surface......like the top of a vise or anvil.  Procure a flat blade punch and a ball peen hammer, and stake the exposed end.  Turn the hinge over and repeat.  Repeat the process for the other hinge.  Reinstall hinges.

I like the silicone idea so far! ;D

Keep an eye on em. I'm interested to know if that's a weak spot with these hinges, or I'm just lucky again! ::) ;)

Mine have been on the Road Glide for 1500 miles or a bit more.  No issues here.  No rattles.  No loose pins.  So far they just look good.

This is a better idea than mine, but also makes it difficult to remove the pins should the need arise

Maybe instead of sending the hinges to everyone you should've had them send you the tourpaks? :nixweiss: I knew there was a reason I was going to have you install mine. :huepfenjump3:
