A new riding buddy has them on a couple of his bikes and swears by them .
This weekend was the first time I rode any distance without them and with freshly balanced tires. I was ready to come back on here to say that the balanced tires weren't any better than the beads. No way!
I am so impressed with how smooth the bike rides now. It used to be OK up to about 65 and then the shakes would start. Running in the low 70's, I could look at the front axle nut and just watch it bouncing up and down. Not any more.
The beads cost me about $6 to install and $61 to have them removed and the wheels balanced. Before I had them taken out, I was wondering if I should just wait it out and get rid of them when the tires were ready to be changed later this year. I am SOOOOOO glad I didn't wait.
The difference without them is remarkable. I had forgotten just how smooth that bike rode before I tore it down after the accident. It was during the rebuild that I installed the beads. I REALLY wanted them to work!!! They just didn't do it.
My situation my be different in that it takes over 2.5oz. of lead to balance my tires. Maybe that's just too much to ask the beads to do. Regardless, on my bike, they were a disaster. Your mileage may vary.
If anyone is interested, I've got 6 oz. of the little suckers you can have for free, just pay shipping.
Live and learn.
