If the light comes on and stays on, it means you have a current fault in the turn signal or security system (TSSM).  If the light comes on for 8 seconds and then goes back out, it means you don't have a current fault but there are historical codes set.  Check the easy stuff first, turn signals and running lights working properly?  If no obvious problem shows itself, you'll need to read the trouble codes.  In the meantime, don't assume the security system is working and walk away without locking the bike.

Sean, do the "wow" test. It will show you the error codes so you can post here & we can tell you what they mean. Key off, hold the trip reset button in and turn the key on. All the lights & gauges will turn on. In the dislpaly it will read PSST? something like that. Push the reset button for each letter each time and it will give you the codes.

Who is usually armed...with .40 or .45 cal hollow points.  Funny is that I am only NOT armed when at work...at least here at work.

Hmmmmmmmm.  Those are some weird looking numbers, which brings the question "Do the 2003 motorcycles have the same WOW as 2005 and later motorcycles."  On 2005 and later motorcycles when you do the WOW test, after going through the switchology hard10 listed, you'll see the word "diag" in the odometer screen while your speedometer and tachometer needles do a full sweep and all lights, even the ones not used, in those instruments will light up then go off.  Subsequent press of the trip reset will yield "PSSPt" where P=ECM, S=TS(S)M, SP= Speedometer, and t=Technometer.  "P" will be flashing.  Subseqent momentary presses will tab through the systems.  Pressing and holding the trip reset will yield either "nonE" for no code, an alphanumeric code, and if you are in "P" and you have a PCIIIUSB installed or in "t" and no tachometer is installed, it will yield a "no rsP."  Translation is relatively intuitive for all but the codes.  You can find those codes in your EDM, which is a must have for these machines.  Subsequent momentary press will yield the part number of the device under test, and it will move to the next device.  If there is a code, and it is historical, while the code is displayed, press and hold the trip reset until the word "clear" is displayed.  No more code.

Still doesn't answer Sean's quest.  He needs to know if the WOW test for 2003 bikes is the same as it is for 2005 and later machines..............and I haven't a clue, but based on his report above, I think not...........or soemthing is really jacked up.

Just my 2 cents FWIW.

Sean, such are the vagaries of certain electronic systems.  I've run into many similar circumstances in the past, with an indicator telling me there is a problem and then not finding anything and the light just going out on it's own.  Some have come back later, but some have never reappeared.  All I can suggest is to check the electrical connections (disconnect and reconnect) for now, and if it happens again then I would go into full diagnosis mode.

BTW, I don't think you can use the speedometer display test AJ referenced on an '03 model.  That test is only applicable to the serial bus vehicles, and I'm pretty sure that started in '04.  There should be another way to read the codes besides having the dealer hook up his computer, but I don't personally have that information where I can lay my hands on it.  It has to do with triggering the system and counting flashes of the light.  Hopefully someone will have that info and post it here.

BINGO, Jerry, but my memories of this process are 3 years fuzzy.  Seems there were multiple ignition switch manipulations, jumpering two pins in the ECM dongle, counting turn signal flashes, wiggling your left toe while touching your ear to the mirror, and this entire procedure had to be done with the seat installed, the bike in 4th gear, the CKP screw tightened to 3 in/lbs, the right front brake caliber removed, and you had to be wearing a Tennessee Volunteer football jersey.  CHIT, I can't remember, but all foolishness aside, it was cumbersome and required some rehearsal so you'd know where to look at what time.  As I recall, I had Renea write the number of flashes by sequence and translate it into a code, so I could reference the code in the book and see what the problem was.  There was also a code clearance process, which was equally, if not more cumbersome, BUT if you have the patience to learn it and get through it, it beats the hell out of taking the bike to a stealership and having them get in your wallet.............and I hate that even more than the kabouki dance I had to do to diagnose and fix the non-bussed bikes.   :2vrolijk_21:

It was good all the way home, no security light, and all my signals etc functioned as normal - the SERK is parked today, rode in on my "rain bike" since there are storms today.

Is there a device that I can get to read my ECM?  I have a Car Chip on my Ford and can pull diagnostics to my PC with it...anything similar?

Thanks everyone!
