Anyone with a Thundermax played with the idol settings?
« on: June 10, 2008, 04:12:17 PM »

The '06 FLHTCUSE I just bought had a Thundermax ECM already installed.  I changed the stock exhaust to a set of Bub7's and changed the stock intake to a Ness Big Sucker.  The software is really cool on this Thundermax, very easy to change the base map.  My question is the base map shows an idol speed of 976 RPM.  Has anyone lowered the idol speed and had problems?  976 seems fast to me, and I bet it would sure sound good idling a little lower.

I have a Zipper's ThunderMax on my '07 SEUC and keep my idle set at 950rpm.

Mine idles at 944 rpm and if cylinder head temp. rises above 300 degrees, drops to 900 rpm, no problems

Like the others have stated, idle arm is 900-1000 rpm's depending on engine temp with the EFI engines.  The lower the idle, the lower the oil pressure and not a lot of oil going to the piston cooling nozzles.  I would leave it alone.

Dealer told me to watch out with lowering the idle rpm, because of low charging which could lead to problems as the fuel injection systems are senstive to low voltage and you can big end problems. Also the low idle rpm of modern day HD's would be a lot less smooth than shovels or earlier because of low swing masses.
