Installed XIED
« on: June 11, 2008, 08:29:33 PM »

Revieved my XIED's today and installed them which took all of about 10 minutes. It's raining like crazy here so I haven't had a chance to try them. IF they work as promised they will be the easiest and least expensive ($95) add-on that I have ever installed. :2vrolijk_21:

10 minutes?  What took so long?  You used zip ties didn't you?  I did it a couple weeks ago and was surprised it took less than 5.  It's easier than checking tire pressure (don't have to move the bike)

It's  an inline resistor added to the O2 sensor wiring that enriches the F/A ratio by fooling the ECM.

Your about right with 5 minutes (including the wire-ties).
I spent the other 5 wondering if I missed something ;D
BTW - I spoke to a friend of mine who is an aircraft mechanic (heavies - 700 series Boeing, etc) and was showing him the wires (XIED's) that I had just recieved saying that they went inline on the exhaust 02 sensors. This guy knows nothing about motorcycles - wouldn't know a Harley from a rickshaw - but he immediatly responded with
"the new EPA regs are really messing things up aren't they, I presume the wires have resistors in line to tweek the computor. I'll bet your motors running a little hot. Nothing like a little fuel to cool things down".

I have put on just a little over 1K miles since the XIED installation so I thought I would do a bit of an up-date:
1-I have read of some getting error codes with this install - I haven't gotten any
2-Heat reduction is significant (about 50 degrees) and is very noticeable from the saddle
3-Smoother acceleration and next to no popping on deceleration
4-The biggest point for me is the fact that I can now run in 6th gear at 65 to 70 mph with-out the engine "lugging" (2600 to 2700 RPM)
To say the least, I am impressed !

I had a performance gain as well.  I've run several tanks of fuel through since the install and I'm getting a drop in mileage of 12-18 miles per tank now (about 4 mpg).  It's not a deal breaker though.

Okay now, that's weird ---- it appears my mileage went up about 2 mpg. Anybody else had a mileage change + or - ??

Another up-date --- Over the last 12 days I have put 4000 miles on my SE (Alberta Canada to New York). NO heat problems and the bike ran like a dream. I can't believe that more people aren't going to this Very effective and in-expensive fix !!

I have about 500 miles on my XIED's now and 2 tanks of fuel.  1600 miles on the SERK.  My MPG before the XIED's was averaging 43MPG.  With the XIED's my last two tanks were 47MPH and 49MPH.  I don't know if it's coincidence to the 1000 service and the bike breaking in, or the result of the XIED's.  It's  somewhat counter-intuitive that your MPG would go up with the XIED's increasing the fuel to air ratio, especailly that significantly.  Mind you, I'm not  complaining.   As for heat, I don't have a IR thermometer so I'm having to use my 53 year old buttmometer.  It says the heat is slightly lower, but still fairly hot.  My refereing point is my old '02 stock 88TC RK.  The SERK is still hot enough that I'm considering adding one of those heat deflectors that attach below the seat.  I just really hate how they look.  They also look like they may interfer and bite into your inner thighs.  Anyone with experience on those sheilds and whether or not they are worth the money?  Do they hit your inner leg?

I've got them on mine and they don't bother me at all. I'm not really how much heat is deflected but it's enough to justify the $70+ for them.
