Vans & Hines true duals
« on: June 11, 2008, 10:37:55 PM »

I just had them installed about two weeks ago and a Power Commander. The bike is pretty much stock after that. My question to anyone who runs the same pipes. What do you think, too loud? I got an instant woodie the first time the speed shop guy started the scoot up. And I still love it. But I recently have gotten a few folks say that they would'nt like to ride next to me more than 20 minutes. They're really loud when you get on it. But relitively mundane at cruising speed. I still believe that if someone on thier cell phone in a car is gonna hear me before they see me. :nixweiss:

I have the V&H true duals but it is the mufflers that allow the noise

what slipons do you have ?  V&H longshots are very loud

I ride with a group every week and 1 guy has a Rinehart setup with cams....with the "crack" that comes with them is very

annoying  (high pitch crack)  (my Vance & Hines longshots are loud on the Deuce but not high pitched)

unlike the Rush and Fatcats......just a nice low end freq burble ....loud but low end to not bother

They're the Big shot True duals, for baggers. Basically a 2 1/2" straight pipe with some sort of baffle in it.  :givemebeer: :givemebeer:

I have the V&H Big Shot True Duals.  Right out of the box, they were too loud for me.  I changed to the quite baffles - it helped some and also added a little back pressure that helped performance a little.  I also added the fish-tail tips.  I really like the looks of these pipes - especially with the fish-tail tips.  They just don't do much for the performance of the bike.

Here is a link showing the quite baffles:   http://vanceandhines.com/a103_bigshotsdual_drs.html

Oh BTW, you will have to completly remove the left side to change the baffle :2vrolijk_21:

Fuzz...I have the V&H True Duals with the V&H Oval mufflers.  The long shots were way too loud for me and for my much better half...but the ovals have a great bark when you want them to, but have a nice mellow rumble at highway speeds.  I really do like the sound the ovals make...if you get a chance, listen to someone's bike that has them.  I think you'd be pleasantly surprised.  IMO.

If noise is the basic need....you have got it

if power is want you .....the big shots are not the best solution

I am not a big fan of the noise unless it is deep and throaty......will not wear you out

2 in 1 gets the most power......rush gets deep low noise

level can be adjusted by the size of baffle 1 3/4, 2" , 2 1/4", or 2 1/2"

I did have the V&H ovals with the stock header pipe. I rode the bike like this for 5 yrs. I had the Big Shots installed because I liked the looks. I think I'll go with the quieter baffle option. I did know that the 2 into 1 pipes you can get more HP, but I personally don't like the way they look on a bagger. :coolblue:

LRebel did you have to get the bike retuned after the baffle change?

The no brainier was the Bassani 2 into 1 pipes, increased power, but for baggers I also looked at like it was missing a leg and the ghost pipe was to ridiculous

No.  Runs the same as it did with the loud baffles.

I have the true duals and love them. They don't have the best performance but I didn't buy a Harley bagger to go roadracing with either. My only wish would be that the pipes would size up as they progressed toward the back. That way they would retain the sound and add a little gerth to the bike.

I do enjoy the added power that I gained from the dyno and pipes , but again I,m not looking to go head to head with anyone. When I need to grab a handfull of throttle it's there. Thanks for the info and opinions.  :huepfenlol2:
