Replacing My Boo Boo Fender
« on: June 12, 2008, 01:01:00 PM »

Dealer called and said my new fender is in. They gave me an estimate of $1250.00. The fender is about $850.00. $400.00 just to remove & replace a fender????? Looks like there's only 4 bolts holding the darn thing on! Springer front end. Is there more than meets the eye on this job? Maybe I'll just pick it up and do it myself. Girlfriend's brother did the damage by trying to get the bike outta the rain while I was at work, so an insurance claim isn't really an option. He's paying for the damage and I don't wanna see him get raped. I help them financially and will end up paying for it one way or another anyway  Are there any warranty issues???

You must be thinking of the Magnussen Moss Warranty Act which protects owners by stating that the dealer or manufacturer must prove that your mod was a direct cause of the breakdown. (Such as if you mount a front fender but the rear cylinder leaks oil...you can't prove that the fender had anything to do with the oil leak. So the dealer must cover the oil leak.)

hmmm...  lets see - 4 bolts x 1 trained mechanic per bolt x 1 hour per bolt x $100 per hour = $400       Seems reasonable, doesn't it...?   :nixweiss:

If the work is being done at a dealership, trained, may not be a good assumption.
