Mine did the same thing.  Springs and stuff all over the place.  I put it back together and I happened to be going to the dealer anyway.  I  just noticed yesterday, that the dealer sort of screwed up the paint when they mounted the new trim ring.  Maybe it can be buffed out, but it looks like they messed it up and tried to apply more clear coat.

I am on my second gas cap on a bike I purchased on 3/23.  The trim ring keeps coming off.  Then I noticed that I can pull off the gas cap and I can see the springs and all of the insides. Gotta have this checked with my 1000 mi. service.  Maybe the fuel is removing the glue that holds the trim ring in place?  Weird.  Never heard of a problem with a gas cap before.

I'm having same problem with the trim ring. I replaced the sticky with a 3M product. Now she's staying put.  FYI

what off the gas cap ring?  then u should be more care when filling with gas?

chrome chipping of in other areas, yeah sure they all do that!
