Damm , My Sunday mornings just won't be the same,

I may have not liked his politics but I loved his interviewing style, no matter who you were He was prepaired to remind you of your past statements

This is why we all need to live each day to the fullest, I know I some times forget myself

My prayers are with his family and all those who knew him.

My condolences and RIP

There was massive coverage on all major networks today. They all practically cut and stayed with the story all day.
I was watching the local noon news and heard the news of a boat club friend who was killed while servicing a car dealers sign. Just talked to him Tuesday. Makes you feel justified in taking time to travel and enjoy yourself. My Grandmother used to begin with "This is the last time....." when scolding me. As I get older, I realize that there really is a last time. :(

...great journalist, father and man. I've been a fan of his since the old Olympic coverage days. He was very exited about the current political scene and would have been the one to follow with this historic election.  Doc

Sunday morings, when I am not riding, will not be the same.

You had to appreciate his preparation and his effort to do a job that was fair.  I felt like I knew, even though I did not.  He always brought a fairness to his interviews.

Tim Russert, may you rest in peace.

One of the few respected by both sides, a great role model. I truly enjoyed hearing him talk about his dad with such love and admiration - just makes it more sad that his dad now has to lay his son to rest on this fathers day weekend. May this be something to make us all take an extra moment and think on this fathers day weekend.

Agreed and he has two books that I would suggest reading on this Father's Day weekend.

Left or Right, Democratic or Republican, Liberal or Conservative, he was prepared to discuss the issues.

I was really looking forward to seeing him debate with the two 2008 candidates.

It is rare in this forum for everyone to be of the same mind.  He will be missed.

Tim was only a couple of years older than I am and it really struck home with us.  Jamey loved watching his show and listened to him on every news show he was on.  We will truly miss him.

With three major heart "episodes" under my belt, this hit me like a brick wall falling on me. I never met the man, but there was just something about the way he looked into the TV camera that made me believe I'd have liked him a lot had I known him. And he was one of the very few "talking heads" I actually listened to. I was never sure which way he leaned politically. I think as many have said about him, he simply loved being in the thick of political discourse. Yes he will be missed. My condolences to his family, friends and colleagues

I don't think he did lean one way or the other. What he did was provide a nation wide forum for politicians to expose themselves to tough questions. Most of the time he would allow the guest to fully answer the questions without interuption, unlike many of the other reporters.  :)

What a shame...such grit, determination, yet fairness in his interviews and work...I truly enjoyed watching him attempt in every way to pull from a politician their views and hold their feet to the fire...one of the best IMHO and his love for the family unit was just admireable...A good man passed and he'll be missed.

I wasn't going to responded to this thread, but just could not let this pass.

Tim was a great guy. I really like how he would not hold back any punches. He did not care who you were affiliated with. He would go after the truth. Even the Politicians he would interview and really be tough on in the interview seemed to love him. Sunday mornings will never be the same. At 58 he was too young to die.

The worst part about all of this. On Friday the 13th 2008 I was working and the Officer in charge of Paramedic Engine Company 20 (PEC 20 for short). I had just turned my Medic and his Mentee loose on a call with Ambulance 28. They took an 86 year old diabetic to Sibley Hospital. I kept one of the firefighters from Ambo 28 to keep my manning up and stay in service as Engine Company 20. We were dispatched to 4001 Nebraska Ave NW for the unconscious person. It was Tim Russert. We worked him till PEC 28 and Medic 21 arrived. They did everything they could to revive him. But we all know the outcome. I sat and watched the news that evening and could not believe the coverage they gave him. It was nice to see how great of a man he really was and how everyone was praising him. It really didn't hit home till the next morning when I was waiting to get relieved. The coverage was on all of the major networks. It was also one of the longest rides home that morning.

Tomorrow is the wake at Saint Albans School from 1400 till 2100 hrs. I will be in charge of Truck 12 tomorrow which is housed with PEC 20. You can bet I will be in the front seat of PEC 20 and will be at Saint Albans School to pay my last respect.

Be Safe

One of Buffalo, NY's favorite sons and leading ambassadors.  He was always proud of his roots.  I watched his son Luke interviewed by Matt Lauer this morning and his composure was amazing.  I was so impressed by him.  I know his father would have been proud.  There is a park here named after him and they had a candle light vigil in his honor last night.  My daughter asked me this morning who will replace him.  I told her it will take a LONG time to replace him.  He will be a very tough act to follow.  God bless his family.
