This was a bit of a surprise.
« on: June 14, 2008, 12:49:35 AM »

A couple of months ago I invited a writer/rider from the LA Times to take the Ride Like A Pro course from me. She took the course one day, and sent out a video crew on another day. I never heard back from them.

Today I had a rider sign up for a class. When I asked how he heard about Ride Like A Pro, he said from the LA Times On-Line.
Here is a link to their posting.

Then I found out that another piece was written up in Road Runner Magazine, even though they misidentified me in a picture.
It's always strange to see yourself on TV, the Internet, or in a magazine.

Nice. Congratulations. It's always nice to get a little free press.

Wow, that was a great v-article.  Great pics.  Too bad she did not let you know, but as AJ just said, some free advertising.  Doesn't get much better.

You are obviously a great rider coach.  I'd love to be able to perform in a parking lot like that.  I can drive fast in a straight line, but really need a lot of help with the slow stuff.  Since it is hard for me to reach the ground, I prefer to keep rolling as much as possible.

Nice of them to do that...but it would have been nicer if they had informed you of its publication on the web.  But like AJ said, free publicity is always nice.   :2vrolijk_21:

Mark,
Excellent presentation and obviously a good instructor......we all should spend more time practicing maneuvers that we do not always like, but would make us better riders.

I am always in awe of some of the riders I run into that never (I mean never) have to put their feet down regardless of speed....Particularly stopped

Carpet. Her husband, who took the course last year, used duct tape and carpet to cover the saddlebags on her bike in case of a tip over. People do "different" things to their bikes for protection. I don't know why, but they use that foam insulation over their crash bars, when they need to be using garden or heater hose. That foam stuff just shreds off at first contact.

Guess I would just take the bags off...they would get damaged in a fall covered or not?

Great, Mark!  I just sent you an email, cancelling my class appointment for this weekend.  I took the Alameda County Sheriffs Class all day today.  We did the tight u-turns, hinging, braking excercises, etc.  All of us thought we were qualified for intermediate training, but it turns out that we were all considered "basic" training students.

Just 5 of us.  We rode the same Kawis that are shown in your video.  Real beaters.  I am exhausted.  It was a mentally long day as well as physically.  I plan to attend one of your classes in a month or two.  I will try to assimilate what I learned today and then benefit from more training.

I purchased the video- "Ride Like a Pro -V" but haven't received it yet.

Talk to you soon,
Marie

Curious if this has happened to any of you - as I have mentioned before we have a Motorcycle Club as part of my command...goal being to have the "older" folks like myself mentor the newer adrenaline junkies...

Anyway, back in March we had a ride to Maple Hill Road here in Eastern NC, sort of like the Deals Gap of Jacksonville - and we ended up having a rider dump after his floorboard hit a reflector, he dumped it in the grass, unhurt except for a broken tail light.

Ever happen to anyone?    :nixweiss:

No, but I've nailed cookies with a kickstand getting a real solid "THWACK" which gets your attention for a sec. I would assume getting a floorboard hung up on a cookie is worse than a kickstand. This is only one of the reasons why I never lean far enough to drag a floorboard. You're only asking for trouble riding that aggressively. ;)

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!! ;D
