Road Glide Handlebar Options
« on: June 17, 2008, 09:51:41 PM »

Had waited to consider any potential change of bars until after the new seat had arrived.  Needed to know where my butt was going to be before even considering changing anything else.

First impressions of the bars were that they were fine with the new seat.  Actually very good indeed.  Great for pullback.  Arms, shoulders and elbows are in great positions.  Wrists aren't bad.

This evening was the first time I'd needed to do some relatively tight U-turns with this bike though.  In doing so discovered that the bars are surprisingly narrow.

Not sure I'll mess with changing them.  But was wondering what the options are that others might have used.  Please share.

Don

My SERG had 2" up and 2" back bars when I got it.
For me they sucked!
Put the stock bars back on and have about 5K miles on them with no complaints.
They are staying there!

Now the exhaust system is another story.

But will add that if you want or decide you need a set of 2" rise and 2" back bars let me know.

I like just about everything about the stock bars so far except what I found out today.  Finding my hand crossing to almost my belly button making a tight turn was awkward.  Would need to find something a little wider that kept pullback and wrist/elbow angles similar or I won't change it.  Just trying to find out what other's might have used.

Definitely don't want any more rise.  Or at least not 2".  And 2" more pullback would be too much too.  The new Corbin seat moved me forward a fair bit compared to the stocker.  If the bars came back also I could scratch myself going down the road and never take my hands off the handlebars.

I'm thinking (but may be wrong) that any of the Screaming Eagle mufflers that require end caps will work.
I know that the Shark Fin end caps DID fit on stock SEEG muffles and also DID fit a set of Screaming Eagle Mufflers I had.

Does that help?

First off HIGH FIVE On the post count buddy. Don't know if I've read all 5,000 of them but I've enjoyed every single one I did read.

Next, I have a set of Screamin Eagle mufflers - - best ones ever made 65115-98B and the caps are about 1/32" too big all around. This idea is on the shelf for awhile. My back is to effed up to be screwin around with this chit

Do you guys think the fish tails will work on a set of stock mufflers from an 05 SEEG.  I did the recore with Kerker baffles, that was popular here a couple of years ago.  After reading all of this, I remembered that I had a set.  So I took the Wild Pigs off this morning and put the recored mufflers on.  So now I am thinking that I will take the fish tails off the stock muffles and see if they will work.

I will say that the recored 05 mufflers sound better behind the 95"  than they did behind the 103".

Will keep you posted.  Probably try to put them on tomorrow night.
