There's a reason Obama bin BS'n wants to bring the troops home, because we're going to really need them back here to fight.  Weakening our defensive posture will bring the war to our shores.  You're right, this guys scares the Bejesus out of me.  :nervous:

I won't start a political argument on this thread but if no one has noticed we are at war in this country .Look at the drugs , poverty , what our kids see in school every day . The violence may not have seen it's way to your life but it's all around if you look. Our kids are scarred to death and that is why they join gangs take drugs and carry weapons. An earlier thread talked about teen pregnancy and the this goes right along with that. Piss poor parenting , my generation has done a terrible job raising our kids , maybe not you or I specifically but the generation as a hole. We better wake up and fix it or the foreigners won't have to wipe us out we will do to ourselves!

"At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years. At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide. The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln edited by Roy P. Basler, Volume I, "Address Before the Young Men's Lyceum of Springfield, Illinois (January 27, 1838), p. 109.

Sometimes the words of the past reflect most deeply upon the issues of the present. Something to think about.

I'm going to go where I probably shouldn't with this, because I know I'll get accused of archaic thinking, but here goes anyway.  The problem with our society today is parenting, but you know what, it's not all the parents fault.  The legal system has gotten so over-biased on the the left wing nut-job "touch me-feel me" way of diciplining our children, that parents have no rights anymore to take charge of their children.  Don't get me wrong, I think if a parent crosses the line and physically abuses their kid, they should go to jail, that's not punishing or teaching their kid a lesson, but just beating up on them.  However, there's nothing wrong, in my book, with corporal punishment, and that's been taken away from us as parents.  It's a sad state of affairs when a child can now press charges against their parents for a spanking.  My daughter threatened me ONCE with that, and I simply told her, go ahead call in and say I physically beat you up, because I guarantee by the time the police get here, I will have deserved it, and when I get out of jail, you better not be here when I get back.  The back of my hand still stings from the nuns whacking it with a ruler when I "mis-behaved" in class, and my butt still stings from my dad's belt acrossed it.  Teachers were able to dicipline the students when I went to school (to a limit), but today, they can't even lay a hand on a student for fear of being fired or at the least sued.  Putting a child in a "time-out" chair is BS, what does that teach them when all they do is sit there and scream while they are there?  I'm not the perfect father, and will never claimed to be one, but my daughter never ended up in a gang, did drugs, or got into any serious trouble (other than with me).  Kids today are taking drugs and carrying weapons because they are scared?  Scared of what, another kid that's taking drugs and carrying weapons?  Why is that?  Yeah, blame the parents, but the parents are so limited today in what they can do to their children for fear of being sued by their own child.  It's society my friends. We have become such a litigeous society.  Don't try to work things out anymore, or be a good neighbor, sue the bastards.  I can't even leave a hose across my driveway for fear that someone will walk 80 feet down my driveway from the sidewalk and trip on the hose and sue me, and I'll be found negligent!!  BS organizations like the ACLU are what's ruining our society today.  When criminals have more rights then the victims, we as a society have failed, we've put our fate into the hands of the lawyers, and for the most part they're only out there to do one thing, line their own pockets.   :soapbox:

I absolutely agree with you on most accounts .It is a system failer as well as a parental failer . We need change in the entire system and settling for status Que wont fix any thing. As much as i dislike the ACLU they do some good also It's a ying yang sorta  deal .They protect us from the far right wing but go to far left at times .We need middle ground to survive.
I am old enough to remember the elections between Goldwater and Kennedy . Every one thought the world would end if such a young Catholic man tried to run this country especially with the cold war raging. Well we might not be here had Goldwater been in office when the Cuban Missile crisis came along , Understand I believed what my parents were saying that republicans were always right. [My god mom and dad were wrong]
