---------------------- The Thread that started this conversation;
Mr WeCVO and I have the good fortune to be located only a couple of hours south of DC and have a long weekend in front of us with no house chores screamin at us to be done. We slept in till 5:00 AM Saturday, soaked in the hot tub with coffees and made choices for the day. Figuring on a gorgeous day ducking between rain showers, we decided to just stick to I-95 to Dumfries - our old stomping grounds - and then see what happened. Well, just 30 minutes on the road and it rained all the way to Quantico - 7 miles South of our destination. As we powered up the road, I was so thankful that my ride has so much protection. With the lowers, fairing and windshield, I barely felt the rain. With totally trashed looking SEEGs we pulled into East Coast HD in Dumfries. Some of old friends were there, we BSd a bit, then decided to move out to Fort Washington, MD where one can swipe your HOG card and get the Rolling Thunder pin. We got caught up in a group of 270 riders who came from LA to DC to ride the tribute to our veterans and salute the wall. When we finally extracted ourselves from our new friends, we drove over to the dealership. We are starting to think we have spent just way too much time at shops, cause there is just nothing new that we want or need, so we jawjacked a little then headed our bikes back home. Bikes got baths and put away happy. A short little 300 mile soiree.
Then Sunday morning - with a real destination and time in mind, we were in the tub at 4:00 AM and on the road by 6:00 to ride to Dumfries again, but this time was to line up for the police escorted ride up the HOV lanes to the Pentagon parking lot. Hundreds of thousands of bikers were in Washington yesterday for the annual Rolling Thunder memorial ride. We got to meet about 20 of our favorite friends of our old chapter and had a very good visit before driving a most painfully slow ride into the district. Every road, every overpass lined with those that come out to cheer the riders on. Flags and peace signs. Wheel chairs and crutches. We actually did not go into the Pentagon, but rather passed it to ride straight into town where we cheered the riders for three hours as they drove past the mall in their tribute. Hour after hour, bike after roaring bike, all ages, all bikes, some with smiles, some with tears, all with pride. A tour of Thunder Alley and back home. Again, another gorgeous day, over 300 miles and a feeling like we made a difference, albeit very small.
Today - Yet to be seen.
