Scott Kalitta died today...
« on: June 21, 2008, 10:18:32 PM »

I don't think I have ever seen such a violent crash.  A wife and two young sons...  My heartfelt condolences...  :(

That has got to be the worst I have ever seen.  How horrible...

All those years, his Mom pioneered racing for women, his Dad always a perennial top fuel contender and they always walked away. To the world of NHRA, this is the same as when NASCAR lost Adam Petty at NHIS.

Did you see the crash??...like I said earlier, I don't think I have ever seen such a violent crash...  When I was a kid, I worked for Goodyear Racing - busting, mounting, balancing tires.  I met the Kalitta's a few times.  Connie is a tough bird.  Scott knew how to enjoy himself, but he was dedicated to his family and was always polite.  Very sad for the family...  Very much like the Petty loss...

I think the violence with the crash is due to the car going airborne and hitting an almost impossible to hit cement column supporting the safety net.

I have been going to Raceway Park since they opened, and saw more then a few nasty wrecks, by far that is the most violent I have ever seen followed by the pro stock crash several years ago.

Even the TV tower (cherry picker) was affected, from the video the TV guy would be lucky if he got away with no burns.

Haven't seen the crash but watched the eliminations last through teary eyes.  Being an ex motorcycle drag racer you know that 99% of those racers in the pits are great people and we've all suffered a great loss.  GODSPEED Scott Kalitta.

Just thinking back on the Muldowny/Kalitta family history after reading about this. Can you imagine Mom and Dad and all the kids growing up, one big happy family EXCEPT on weekends. Mom climbs in her AA Top Fuel Dragster and Dad climbs in his and they race against each other. WOW, what a way to grow up. I have to think that while Scott's life came to an abrupt halt, he spent most of it doing what he was born to do.
