« on: May 31, 2005, 02:56:52 AM »

Thanks Robert

I honestly don't remember ever seeing a diagram for it.  It's a pretty straight forward affair (simple enough that some stranger in a parking lot could make off with mine in 60 seconds flat).

First thing is any connections to be unhooked.  If you've added a spoiler to the tour pak lid be sure an unhook it's wiring harness along with the stock wiring harness for the antenna and the interior light.

If you look at the tour pak's points of contact with the bike you'll see there are two such points on each side.  The rear point has a latch.  On those latches there are releases that are oriented such (when latched) that you can push them with your thumbs.  As you do this the entire latch can then rotate.  As it does this it will begin to lift the rear of the tour pak.

Keep rotating the latches until they are clear of their detachable mount points.  Once they are clear you can then lift the tour pak out off of its forward mount points as well (they just slide off or on).

Be sure you've decided on a place to set it down before you lift it off.  You don't want to set the painted surface down on rough concrete.

#1 - loosen the allen screw on the lower antenna mast - unscrew antenna
#2 - drivers side saddlebag just behind is the electrical connection for tourpac lighting - unsnap
#3 - on the rear detach snap pins - on the lower side push together with pinky and thumb to release pins and rotate lock clips towards front of motorcycle - very tight fit - lift equally on back side of tourpac - then lift lightly backwards pulling pac from front clips - find very safe place to store
#4 remove antenna adapter and verify the 2 nuts on antenna connection are tight - screw your antenna back on and lightly tighten allen screw

And don't where a big metal belt buckle when you lift if off. Bad things can happen to the paint.  [smiley=thumbsdown.gif]

So Twolane what do you use to lock the Tour Pac down with. The Harley detachable lock kit has the dam key to long as the lock mechanisims are on the inside of the chrome bracket? Just wondering what others use to lock thier Tour Pac down with?

I KNOW YOU ASKED TWOLANE - BUT HERE IS MY ANSWER - ITS CALLED  A SECURITY PAGER SYSTEM - AND A .41 CAL BLACKHAWK REVOLVER WITH A LASER SCOPE - DO YOU KNOW HOW SLOW YOU RUN STEALING A TOURPACK - OR EVEN IF YOUR TRUCK IS NEXT TO THE THEFT - YOU MAY RUN - BUT YOU WILL DIE TIRED - I FIGURE SOMEONE HAS TO BE REALLY STUPID TO MESS WITH ANOTHER BIKERS WHEELS - SO IT IS MY GOD GIVEN DUTY TO SHOW THEM JUST HOW STUPID IT IS - always running on boarderline kill mode anyhow - sticker on biker says "owner is concealed weapons permit holder"

Answer is that I don't.  Several have come up with ingenious ways to tweak the keys and ingenious tweaks for the lock mounts themselves.  When I looked at them there was a good possibility of a paint rub so I just took it all back off and forgot it.

I'm pretty good at not worrying about chit I can't control anyway.  So I'm not worrying about it.  If someone wants it bad enough they'll get it.

If they do it when I'm within range then we'll enjoy a small conversation.  But I'm not going to scratch stuff up or deal with those mickey mouse keys all the time as I swap from one tour pak to the other or to the rear backrest.

Check these threads, both cover the "detachables" lock

http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=eg_gen;action=display;num=1116296631;start=0#0

And the picture is what I did to the key to make it fit.

Thanks!. I just ordered the 2 lock set so I ahve one for my pass back rest and one for the tour pac. I will cut the key like you did and will also make a similar modification to add a loop to it for a key ring. Once I get it done I will post a picture.

My method is slighltly different; I mounted the lock backward, so the key hole is facing the rear when it is locked.  It works fine, just as long as you remember to rotate one side forward and the other rearward when removing or installing the Tour-Pak.  I fixed the problem of the super long key by attaching it to the interior of the saddle bag lid with velcro, so it wouldn't jab me in the wrong place while in my pocket.  Since I always keep the saddle bag locked, it's about as secure as it's going to get.

By the way, if someone wants it bad enough no lock in the world is going to protect it.  This just slows down the amateurs.
