Taller Riders
« on: May 31, 2005, 08:54:22 PM »

Hi, A new guy.

Probably going to get a CVO Electraglide soon.  Waiting to see what 2006 holds, prior to committing.  Have a 1999 hdfxdwg, with many mods including Apehangers, entended forward controls, etc.

Anyway, I am 6'4" & am wanting an electraglide.

Will this fit me?  Any tall riders, did you modify it?  Floorboards? Seat? Windshield? Handlebars?

Any help appreciated...

Can't speak first-hand about this since I am only 5'11", but I sold my '02 Electra Glide Classic to a friend who is 6'5".  He absolutely loves the bike and only installed an aftermarket extended reach brake pedal and moved the stock handlebars to their most upright position to get the bike to fit him.  Stock 12" windshield is perfect for him, but they make taller ones.  He, too, went to the Electra Glide from a Wide Glide.

Another tall guy I know rides an Ultra.  The only thing he has done is put one of the taller Harley seats on to get it to fit him.

There is a lot of room to move around and stretch out on an Electra Glide versus maybe any other motorcycle which I think helps the tall guys a lot.

I am 6'4" as well & I love the SEEG.  First thing I changed out was the windshield - went with the 8 or 9 inch dark tint (did not like the taller ones) I like to look over the windshield.  To get a little more leg room went with the Corbin touring seat which gave me an extra inch or two.  Dont have any problem with the controls (foot or hand) although I did turn the bar to it most upright position.  Hope this helps.

Welcome to the site.

I'm 6'4" and I know that there are several other tall riders on this site, too.  I changed the windshield to an 8" dark tint.  The short one (stock) put the wind right in my face like a wind tunnel.

I changed the seat more recently, but that was more due to my hip.

I'm 6'1" and have an 04 SEEG and a 03 Ultra.  The stock seat on the SEEG sits you further back than the seat on the Ultra.  Add the taller windshield and highway pegs and I think you'll be very pleased with the bike!  If you need more leg room, you may want to consider n custom made seat.

I'm 6'-1", and I have an 03 ultra and an 05 seeg.  Both fit me fine.  I also went to the 9" windshield and I moved the seeg backrest back as far as it could go.  I went with Kurakyn tourtech peg mounts and airfoil pegs.  absolutely love the feel of these.

Being 6-4, yoiu probably want to consider losing the air shocks and going to progressive 440s.  Upon the sage advice offered from this fine web-site, I did and am very happy.

Good luck.

I got my 10" smoked windshield from FastAire.  The service was great, delivery was quick, and the price was very low...  However, they do sctratch easily when washing off bugs etc...

The "search" feature will answer most questions on the CVO and all your questions for the SEEG, in particular.......really a handy feature.

I got my short, dark tint shield (I got the 8" dark tint windshields and I'm 6'4" and they work fine.) at V Twin USA.  Think I paid like $30 a piece......maybe $35.  So cheap, that I bought two and put one up on the shelf for later.  Here's the link to that thread...........
http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=cvo_gen;action=display;num=1080618738

**Side note......they do scratch easier so you always want to use a micro-fiber towel and plenty of water.  I never use paper towels and never clean it on the road (full of bugs) without laying a wet towel on it and soaking it for ten minutes, first.  If I'm not able to do that, then it just doesn't get cleaned.  I also use a lot of Plexus.....a product made for Lexan and plexiglass and now it comes in the little travel size spray bottles.  Hope it helps you guys that are new here.

I'm 6'2" and hated the stock set-up, so I added the running board extensions that moved my big feet [size 14] outward about 1.5",  a longer EZ brake and tossed the heal shifter.   It's alot better but still no room for my boots.  I also tossed the stock windshield and went for a 12" one that has been cut down 3 times to 8.5" and will be cut again...then I'll order one that heigth, probably tinted red.  I have been playing w/ beveling the cut so theres no black line at the top of windshield and it works!!

PS. The bike is at the big HD shop and the field tech. is checking everything to see what might be causing the 105 mph "dance".   I should hear tonight or tomorrow.......... [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
Ride safe all..............

I went with the Memphis Shades 9" gradient ruby windshield.  Matches my cherry seeg2.  Got one with a black gradient for my black 03 ultra.  Bought both from Dennis Kirk.  Good web-site, prompt service, good packing.  I think it was about $69 per.

I'm gonna save the 4 & 6 inch smoked for the hot summer days.  I'm probably gonna get a shorty with the ruby tint for the cherry.

Yeah, 'er 'uh, CVOandChop,
I rise to 6' 2".  I know Chit, [smiley=oops.gif] I mean Chip, is going to say he didn't know they stacked chit that high, but I'm proof of it!  At any rate, with the back-rest, and foot pegs I installed on the front crash bar, (Engine Guard), with the Lowers removed of course, I find my FLHTCUI to be the most comfortable Bagger I have owned, to date!  Laid back, stylin' and profilin', at 120 MPH!
