Zumo and large number of MP3s
« on: June 24, 2008, 02:33:32 PM »

Anyone here have close to the 1000-file limit of MP3s on their Zumo?  What size of card are you using, and how long is your startup time?

On average I would think a 4GB card would hold 1000 +/- songs. What you might do to help alleviate the long start up time is to put songs in subfolders of about 150 - 200 songs.

I have more than 1K, just can't play (or even see beyond the 1k limit).
It is on an 8 GB SD card.  I have a ton (500) pictures on it that I can show in slide show mode.
It takes 20-40 seconds for everything to be good to go.

Thanks d00d.  I've got an 8GB card with nearly 1000 MP3s on, and in one folder (the root) the Zumo takes about 20 minutes to start up!!  I'll try ten folders of 100.

how many folders Steve?
I started with Itunes and pulled all my music in that way.
Itunes creates a folder for each artist.  Then under that artist is a new folder for every album.

I heard a rumor that using media monkey and "playlists"  you could exceed the 1k song limit.
So I used Media Monkey to import my Itunes music.
I believe it kept the same structure as Itunes as it didn't copy gb's of data again.
So I probably don't have more than 20 or 30 songs in any 1 folder and didn't do any extra work to break it up that way.

Good Luck

OK, I've split it down to 39 folders of 25 files, and now it loads in around a minute.

Next question - how do I get the AlbumArt pictures to appear?

Jim,
Not sure but I believe it has been said that Media Monkey will do that. :nixweiss: Never really mattered to me because most of the time the songs are playing in the background and the Zumo is showing the map.
