After you remove the inner primary, remove the shift lever and replace the seal.  The MOCO seal is a cheap metal and rubber single lip seal.   Cometic makes a seal that has 2 lips and is all rubber and is much better made.  You get 5 in a pack from Cometic for less than $5..  I am assuming this is for an 06 or older 5 speed.  You also need to get a inner/outer primary seal/gasket kit from Cometic to put it back together.

Very slight bit of movement is normal.  No bearing.  Shaft just slides through the case.

I thought my shaft had a lot of play until I wiggled a few at the dealer.  Like 2Lane stated, not to worry.   You don't have to buy directly off of Cometic at list price, on line vendors such as www.mandmcycles.com will discount.  You will probably get quicker directly from Cometic though.

Nope, takes a brave man to talk about his shift shaft in public like that....

I'm just wondering how it went over doing the comparison at the dealership :nixweiss: ?
