GRIPS???????
« on: June 02, 2005, 12:09:56 PM »

Is anyone having problems with the stock grips having the chrome rub off?  It looks like they didn't chrome them.  It looks like they stopped after they put on the nickel.  I have had 2 sets put on and the most recent looks worst than the first.  They almost look gold tinted.  The dealer is taking care of it and said they will keep putting on grips but I may end up changing all together.  Anyone else seeing this?

Yep.  Worn thru the chrome on the left grip pretty severly.  I think it's a combination of sweat and friction.....didn't last like some chrome does.  But, the shape and looks of the grip mean I'll replace with same ones........I like 'em!   [smiley=laugh.gif]   spyder

Had the chrome pealing up on my grips that the dealer replaced about six months ago.  New ones seem to be fine.

So far, the grips on mine are the only Stealth Collection pieces that seem to be holding up.  All four floorboards will be new on mine in a couple weeks.

Defective chrome scoreboard on mine so far reads like:

1 - front wheel
4 - floorboards (each one defective in a different spot)
1 - transmission top cover

Mentioned the floorboard situation to the service writer at my dealer when I took the bike in for the broken head pipe earlier this week.  Hadn't seen him in awhile and he didn't know that I'd been in to get the replacements ordered.  Nice guy and knows how well I take care of the bike and the pride in ownership that I have in it.  He was absolutely embarrassed that I was having to deal with the defective chrome on such a pricey bike.  Made me feel better to at least see that there is some understanding that this really isn't acceptable.

Hope '05 isn't starting to pop up.  Stopped by the shop and saw a new yellow with about 1500 miles and a peeling left footboard.  HD is going to have to get a grip on this chrome problem, as it is a bigger problem with chrome accessories coming back than I had imagined.
