Ran out of gas
« on: July 01, 2008, 09:08:29 AM »

My serk is going to have to pay a visit to the stealer after I ran out of gas the other day. I still had 2 LED dots lit up when she ran out of juice. Fliped over the trip meter and 236 was on the clock.  I had never had a problem with my guage until then. Interesting though, ever since I ran out of gas, she pops now on decel. I want to pull the plugs first but I'm thinking I may also have to get her retuned now also along with a new guage.

Spike, Don't take it to Knox H-D on Clinton Hwy, That place has gone to the dogs since Brandon Quit, Mine has been in and out 2 or 3 times since 1st of may (week and half last time) and they still can not get the cruise fixed. Guess i'm going to take it to Russell at Colbach H-D in Morristown.   SERK3

SERK, I refuse to let Clinton Hwy HD put air in my tires let alone any other type of work ever since they screwed up my se v-rod. The bike will be going to Dunk out at SMHD. All of Colbach's tech are good but I have been using Dunk for a whlie now and trust him.

good to know, Dunk lives out past Maryville so I doubt he would be driving back on this side of town since he is so close to home but I'll check into it.

For me fuel guage failure is running second behind motor failure. I am on fuel guage # 3. My current fuel guage has 7995 miles on it.

Big lew,
I am consistantly getting 47 mpg. On a bad day I am getting 42 with all in town riding. All I have done is V& H true duals, K&N filter, and sert with dyno tuning. My hp numbers were low so I know I must have a Monday/Friday motor so I have not been concerned about getting anywhere in a big hurry.

That is great.  I ride in light traffic most of the time (26 miles in 35 min. and occasionally hit 105 mph  ;)).  I get 40 mpg with RH true duals, SE stage I A/C and sert with very good HP and torque.  My led gauge lost 1 led and the fuel pump icon also (they are sending me a new one).

Spike, I have the same setup and get 40 all the time.  Except when I went to upstate NY and VT, the mileage amazingly went to 45 every time.
It's the crappy gas here in Mass and southern NH.  That's why you guys should be each other up on HP and mileage with the gas being such a variable.

I used to always use Amoco/BP but I noticed it was causing my SERK to ping. I tried Shell gas and the pinging stopped and seemed like everything felt smoother. Also I refuse to put any gas in her that has ethanol in it. Luckily, theres enough gas stations around here that have just straight up gas instead of that other junk. I do know that gas with ethanol does gives you fewer mpg.

ditto that.  Since I started using Shell, my bikes run smoother and I get better gas mileage.  My RK classic gets 45-45 mpg on shell in summer.  We do have that oxygenated crap in NJ also.

My SERK is that way about Exxon, loves it - hates BP and HESS, have not tried shell since there aren't any on my normal route...  Put some Circle K in, was not hating it like it did the Hess and the BP, but was less responsive and idled rougher.

Sticking with the Exxon.

Mine runs better on shell also, I'm averging 42 mpg, but running a little rich on fuel seems to have cooled the motor down a little, and most of the time riding 2 up.
