Anyone ever have the front fender dented by crash bar?
« on: July 03, 2008, 12:15:29 AM »

I took the Lowers off (due to the heat)
and noticed a big dent on the front fender lining up to the crash bar
it is not scratched and the dent is very symmetrical (almost looks like it belongs there (but it does not)

has anyone ever come across anything like that?  I do not know how long it has been there and I have compressed the forks a couple times in hard stops. I did not expect this though.......I will contact my dealer, but afraid what the answer is going to be....

I believe that on some of the SEEG's if the lowers weren't exactly right on hard stops w/wheel turned as far as it would go the lowers would rub. It's possible that this might be the case from when you had the lowers on. First time I've heard of an actual dent though. I think 103tHunDer has some pictures of the rub on his somewhere. If you don't find them I'll try searching later.

Check this thread out - front fender contact, and particularly this post. This is only a rub on this bike, but if yours is in the same area I'd believe it was the lowers that were the cause.

I actually dented the top of my fender with the after market brake tee. Its a little bigger than the stock disc and brazed in tubes. Later,Q

The new lowers in 07 where supposed to cure the fender rub issues.  Is the spot/bent covered by the lowers?  If so how did the bar get dented and not break the lowers.  Sounds like warranty to me.

To answer the subject line of this thread.  YES, more times than I'd like to admit while riding two up and having some idiot cut me off in traffic. Lock up the front brakes with a heavily loaded bike at anything over 10 mph and you'll do it on every bagger H-D ever built.

X2     I did it with my 67 shovelhead light bar. At least the sheet metal is relieved in exactly the proper spot now.

Da#$,  I was just hoping I was wrong.   My dent clearly lines up with the crash bar

The cheapest fix I know is to add stiffer fork oil. Next cheapest is to change out your front fork springs to Progressive. Beyond that into $$ville you can add a cartridge type such as the Traxion Dynamics AK-20 and get the added benefit of the ride of your life from what everyone who has had it done says about it.

If you have lowered the front fork it's not uncommon . Had it happen to my RG.

Stock CVO means 1" lower suspension doesn't it ?

I know my 03 SERKs were lowered.

I think you are right . I can stand flat footed on my CVO and I had to lower my other non CVO UC to do that.
