Arkansas lodging recommendations
« on: July 03, 2008, 11:43:02 AM »

The boys and I are planning our second ride up through Arkansas this September.  Last year we stayed in the following cities, with a repeat performance very likely in the same cities. - Hot Springs, Eureka Springs, and Mena on respective nights.  We have a favorite in Eureka Springs - Riders Rest, but am open to lodging recommendations for the others, as well as backups for Eureka Springs.  We can stay low profile or we can spend a little more dough.  Not really an issue, but just want some cool places to stay that are biker friendly.

Thanks in advance.

I'm in Eureka Springs frequently.  Rider's Rest is the best in the area if you're riding.  The downtown hotels are fun occasionally.  But they are a no go for lodging if you're on the bike.  The Rest is friendly, out of the way enough to easy, obviously bike friendly, but close enough to the fun to make it quick back and forth either back in to Eureka or to something like the Wal Mart Stupidcenter over at Berryville.

Don,

We just called and Riders Rest is booked :'(  Figured as it was for a Sat. night stay and we are a little late to get one of their 10 rooms.  Any other biker friendly joints in the area.  I know it is packed with  places, just want to get a good one.

Also, Hot Springs on Friday night is my responsibility too!

Damn.  Ok, in/around Mena there are lots of cabin rentals up in the Ouachita.  That's what I do when staying there.  Many are just one-off privately owned.  But often cheap and nice with indoor parking for a bike.

In Hot Springs you want down by the lake or in town?  If in town the old-line spa hotels nearly all have covered parking.  I'd rather do them than the places down by the lake anyway.  If just looking for a place to stay that's biker friendly try the Best Western Stagecoach Inn.  Right across the street from the pony track.  Right on the south end of the main drag through town.  Close to downtown or the highway.  Walking distance from a couple decent bars.

In Eureka there's another old place not far from Rider's rest out on 62.  Can't think of the name of it.  Might call the Rest back and ask what is close to them out on the highway.  I'd still not do any of the hotels downtown.  Bikes will be parked at remote gravel lots several blocks away.  Look for any of the chain motels just east of 23 on 62.  There are many out there.  At least you'll be on a good parking lot close to the room.  Lots of bikes often in the lots there.

In Mena we always stay at the Sun Country Inn.  Nothing really special about it, just the nicest motel in Mena.

There are a few places south of Mena on Hwy 71 that rent cabins.  Don't really know any details.  We are usually just looking for a good clean place to sleep for a night - we usually check-in, go eat, hit the sack, and then up early in the morning and back on the road....so I never put too much importance on frills unless we are going to be there for two or three days.

Sorry was in Branson for the weekend with the Grand kids man did I have my hands full..... But wouldn't trade it for anything.

In Eureka I usually stay at the Holiday Inn express they have a GREAT indoor pool and hot tub.... They have always been friendly to us.
Don is right about people there as it is a very popular motorcycle place to gather but the cops and some of the business owners just ain't as friendly
when it comes to bikers.... But all in all We always enjoy riding there...

Hot Spring  well depends if you want to stay out on the lake or not, lot of nice Hotels out there but probably nothing going on in Sept as far a bathing beauties... The wife will stay downtown and usually do the spa thing I on the other hand well its makes me no difference as its all good.  They have Magic Springs an amusement park that's pretty cool and don't FORGET the HOT SPRINGS RALLY / CVO Get ToGether in Sept. Need to work that into your trip as well.

Mena,,,, well Mena as you know is a small town but a great area to ride in... Queen Wilhelmina State Park on Hwy 88 a must see / ride.

Let me know when your dates are and I hope to meet up with you again and maybe ride a bit or at least do lunch.

Best Western in Eureka Springs is good.  Offers breakfast with the room.  Not danish and juice but a cooked breakfast.  Besides that, it is within walking distance of good Mexican food restaurant, with great Margaritas.  On the way back stop by the feed store for a cold beer, at the east end of the hotel parking lot.

If you want to stay a little ways out of town, Pointe West is biker friendly and overlooks the lake.  They have a web site.

Thanks folks.  I think we found something in Eureka Springs..Wagner Inn?  It appears there is a rally in Fayetteville so rooms are at a premium and most want a 3 night minimum.

Still looking at places in Hot Springs.  Anyone ever stayed at the Baymont Inn.  right on the lake and they say they are biker friendly.

Only real downside to the Baymont is it's on the "far" end of town.  At least it means you get on the road headed in 1 direction for everything!  It is easier to head out of town in that direction though, you're already there!  As long as you're not headed to HS on a "big" weekend, you should be able to find something just rolling into town.  Lots of places to stay there.
