This could be the start of something big!
« on: July 06, 2008, 04:36:44 PM »

I was out in the man cave finally getting around to mounting the auxiliary front lights and thought I'd see how the new LED drop light I got on sale worked.  It's pretty good at illuminating the dark corners of the bike - including around the rear exhaust port - where I noticed a little seepage of oil has collected at head gasket level.  Into the abyss!  If they ever do replace these things with a water-cooled version I hope they farm the entire project out to Rotax; can you imagine how many years it would take the company to get it anywhere near right on their own?

They already farmed it out to Porsche, the Revolution motor in the V Rod.

Thank you for the clarification kind sir

The point being that H-D had another water cooled motor built vice making the Revolution motor fit the Buell.

Why do you suppose they did that ?

Let's see, the current engine is air and oil cooled, and it leaks oil.  Does that mean the water cooled engine, when it arrives, will leak coolant? :nixweiss:  Anyone want to make a wager?

The best idea is to farm it out to Porsche again, and then keep the cost cutting morons (please note that in deference to our accountant members I refrained from the use of the term "beancounters") away from it.  Or maybe Honda or Yamaha have some extra engineering time available, or better yet some extra manufacturing capacity that would allow them to not only design it but to also build it.  Just think, a powerful and reliable Harley engine right out of the crate.  What a novel idea!

Eric Buell is a man that is very creative.

But he is also very smart.

When the people that control the money dictate that you use a Sporty motor then you have a choice of using it or finding somewhere else to work.

I believe he stayed with the money hoping to someday convince them to use a real motor!

That day has come!

Congrats Eric!

I wonder if it's the same motor BRP puts in the CanAm Spyder.
