FXR2/3 Handlebar
« on: July 08, 2008, 12:37:55 AM »

I looked on Bike Bandit and both the FXR2/3 handlebars are the same part # for the oem parts. Are both these stock bars from Harley the same bar and part #? Does anyone know the width, center, rise, and pullback on this bar(s). My Fxr4 had the stock drag bar and I replaced with buckhorns a few years ago and now I'm thinking of the stock 2 or 3 bar as a replacement for my buckhorns I have now...Any help appreaciated :2vrolijk_21:

When I repalced the bars when I had an FXR4 the bars were replaced with the FXR3 bars. They were a much better fit.

While I'm confident (but could be wrong) that the bars on the FXR2 and 3 were the same, I don't have the specs you're looking for.  My suggestion would be to go to a dealer, have them look up the part number for those bars and then maybe some catalog will have the data on them.

I measured mine and they are 29" wide (grips installed) if that helps.  The other measurements would be pretty rough estimates so I didn't attempt them.  Also, somewhere on this board as I recall, FXR2evo99 posted a lot of info about handlebars for his bike.  There might be some data there you would find helpful.

Here's the post I mentioned:  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=22360.0

elvisee,

Not sure when you read the attached thread that FXR2 attached above for your reference but this morning (July 8th 2008) I went back into that thread and made a modification to "Reply" #11 [typed in green] in which I listed the part number for the "chromed' handle bar my buddy placed on his FXR3 so you would have yet another option....basically in staying with the "theme" of the rise and pull back of the original FXR2 and FXR3 bars the Flander's "BAD BOY" handle bars and the ones I provided information about in Reply #11 which are the HD# 56085-83T [which are the "chrome version"] are the two closest bars which will meet those requirements that I have found as options....

I look forward to the change over from the buckhorns. Over the last two years they just wore off on me;...

When I lived in NC, there was a local guy who had a Sportster with buckhorn handlebars.  They looked just right on that bike (pretty Sporty, Teal and Cream, always spotless) but his riding posture was like a prisoner holding the bars in a jail cell.  Fists perfectly upright.  I wondered how he managed to relax his throttle hand when riding for any length of time.

Kinda like the old joke about "looks good, feel bad".  Or was it the other way around? ;)

Anyway, I think you'll lbe pleased with your new handlebars.

The stock bars on an FXR3 are P/N 56473-98. Tip to Tip: 28"; Base Width: 8"; Rise: 3.5"; Pullback: 6.25"; Knurl Center to Center: 3.5". I like Flanders bars myself too, and will probably be changing my stock FXR3 bars to Flanders #1 bars with 6" straight risers. Need to have the bike first to insure proper seating position. :2vrolijk_21:

I was reading what was being said here by you Howie....and I am a bit confused by the first photo as to which bar that you are showing actually is.....but just to be clear for everyone that may "stumble" into this thread later on when space and time increase....lol I thought I would simply reference exactly which bars I did put on my FXR2....

here is the link:
http://www.sideroadcycles.com/AmericanMotorcycles/Handlebars/Cafe-Flat-Beach/883_Type.html

They are the Flanders "BAD BOY BARS"  F5
rise: 3.5"'
pull back 7.0"
center 7.0"
width 32.25"
1" Diameter

Flander's Part # is 650-08845***
F5: Flanders Bad Boy BarsĀ® Type, HD Dimpled Chrome, HD Knurled
$113.95***

***DS-300133 = Drag Specialties Part #
If you venture to the FLANDERS website you will notice that the bars sell for aprx $113.00 however with the Drag Specialties part number I have provided your ability to acquire them at 20% off should be available to you should you let a 20% discount HD dealer know the Drag Specialties #.

~~basically the F5 Flander's BAD BOY BAR is 4.25" or so wider than the OEM HD# 56473-98 which comes on the FXR2's and FXR3's.

Of course the Flanders "BAD BOY BAR" F5 is more expensive than the HD # 56085-83T chrome bar by about $40.00 - $50.00 which is the price of the HD bar to begin with but the extra length was important to me for reasons I have shared in the above mentioned post by REDFXR2.

The HD#56085-83T is approximately what length ____________?  (well read below, it's actually tough to know)

56085-83A Black Mat Finish
56085-83T Chrome

In the HD Catalogs the bars are described in the following ways:

HD Catalog Part # Tip To Tip   Base Width   Rise       Pull Back       Price
2003 56085-83A        31.5"         7.5"             4"           7.5"
2003 56085-83T        31.0"         8.0"             4.5"        5.5"

2007 56085-83A        31.5"         7.5"             4"           7.5"
2007 56085-83T        31.0"         8.0"             4.5"        5.5"

2008 56085-83A        31.0"        7.75"            4.5"        5.75"          $51.00
2008 56085-83T        31.0"        7.75"            4.5"        5.75"          $49.95

Well as you can see lol HD has a hard time deciding what size these bars are....each year or so it's something entirely different....but I did check with my buddy and on his FXR3 he has the "Chrome" version of these bars on which would be the HD# 56085-83T

If you have any of the above HD catalogs listed above you will be able to see them.....I just don't think your going to be able to figure out how exact these measurements are from the descriptions provided the only choice one has is simply to commit to purchasing them and seeing if you like them, what I do know for sure is they are indeed a bit narrower than the Flander's BAD BOY F5 handle bars but then again they are a bit less expensive as well....and my buddy does like them on his FXR3....but all I know is he is running these, and I verified that he is also needed to modify his throttle cable and idle cable.

Regards,

Tim

Tim, the first bar is the Flanders #1 Bars-8" tall (B3). I'd probably use them with 6" risers. The other choice (2nd pic) is Flanders Original Tall Apehanger Bars-12.5" tall (G3). I'd use them with 1" or 2" risers. Both combos will give me a total of about 14" which has been right for me on most of my bikes over the years. Sorry for any confusion. ;)

Of the two; I like the Flanders #1, but that's just me. All apes look cool, but just not for me as a rider.  :2vrolijk_21:

These 2 setups yield approximately the same overall height. I'm only 5'-9" and 12.5" apes have my hands still at or below shoulder level. Arms straight out (slighly bent at the elbow) with knuckles facing forward is my riding position. Has been for years. My SERK's setup the same. Joy will be no different! :2vrolijk_21:

Hoist.....

(TOO FUNNY I WAS TYPING THIS AT THE SAME TIME WHILE YOU TYPED THE ABOVE)

I am with you on a couple of issues....first of all remember you went from the oem bars on your 2006 SERK to the 10" Mini Ape WildOne handle bars....I really questioned you alot about that set up....and went with those....you later of course decided upon the 12" WildOne's....I didn't go that high...left mine at 10".  So my point is on a road king I am exactly with you about "apes".....and a road king / road king classic looks great with apes......

BUT.....lol here is the "BUUUUUUUT"

it's a different ride with these bikes.....meaning that everything is set up a bit differently....I realize you are after the most comfort....I get that....but there are risers on these bikes as well....and they are meant to lean you over just a bit...ie: the sport bike feel a bit more "aggressive" into the corners persay.....and I must say baby apes on an FXR are going to look  :nixweiss:  oh well.....lol your goin do what your goin do.....

The height of the bars are perfectly comfortable with the oem risers they come with......

I can gaurantee that you will not like the handlebar set up with the stock width of the oem bars....but it's not anything more than the issue with the width.....

I suppose your going to end up looking like a 2006 Dyna Street Bob....and I don't like those either.....LOL

you sir get to ride at the back of the line......   <~~~~~ :soapbox:

I AM JUST TEASING.......  :2vrolijk_21:

Regards,

Tim

PRETTY SOON I AM GOING TO HAVE TO BE TALKING HIM OUT OF THESE:
