Exhaust Pipes
« on: June 06, 2005, 01:57:45 PM »

I have a few questions regarding the Rhineheart pipes that I have just had put on my bike; it isn't running well now. It pops and cracks, which it didnt do before.  What kind of downloader works best with these pipes? [smiley=confused5.gif]

FMC;
Welcome to the site, Did you have the ECM re-mapped? Did you add the stage one air cleaner? If not you will need to do so as well as adding a power commander or race tuner for the best results.

Yes it has a new air cleaner. I was told it did not need a down load! But I now no for sure it need one. But I am not getting the same info. I want to know if the race tunner is the best for this bike  or the power comander

1. Stay away from whoever told you it wouldn't need a new download after changing the pipes and air cleaner.

2. Find a reputable local tuning guru and see what he thinks will work best you power commander or race tuner. They will both do the trick but the key is finding the "right" guy to do the tuning.

PS: Did you replace the exhaust gaskets when you swapped out the pipes? Air leaks can add to the cracking and popping..........

try the screamin eagle pipes from the racing catalog, along with the intake, and download.   I've find this works the best, looks the best, and has just the right sound.

Yeah, 'er 'uh, Dallas,
  [smiley=oops.gif]I think it's a little late for that, now.  I will go with Fatboy's advice on this one.  Later--HUBBARD

FMC welcome to the site.....looks like you're from right up the hill.  I agree, whoever told you that you do not need a download is somebody that I'd steer far from.  And, for those of us from this area, I'd like to know who told you that?  You either need the download or an HD Race Tuner or Power Commander III.  If you go with the Race Tuner or the Power Commander, you'll not need a download each time you make an alteration, going forward.

If you go with the Race Tuner or the Power Commander, you should get it "dyno tuned" by somebody who knows "performance" dyno tunning.  If you go with the Race Tuner, Harley Davidson of Sacramento will get you right at 100 HP and 103 or 104 ft. lbs. of torque (provided that you have the Screamin Eagle High Flow Air Cleaner, too).   There are a few of us on this site that had our bikes tuned as Sac HD with those kind of numbers.

In the meantime, I'd not ride that bike until you get a download or a Race Tuner or Power Commander!  If you do, your exhaust is probably going to turn a very ugly color due to your bike running too lean and over heating.  JMHO

I'm sending you a PM with my cell phone.  Go to the top of the page where it tells you that you have messages (above the weather report) and click on it.

Hangtown Harley Davidson  did the work??  And they told you that you do not need a download?  Take it to Harley Davidson of Sacramento (916) 929-4680, they are a performance friendly dealership.  Give me a call.
