Okay, here's another time I qualify for a stupidity award. Two bikes ago, my first day out on my new bike, my cigarettes flew out of my front pocket as I was going down a hill. I turned around and went back up the hill and then made another turn around, to aim me back down the hill, and be able to park on the side of the road that had a few feet of room. My cigarette pack was on the double yellow lines. I jumped off the bike, ran over to grab my cigarettes, turned around, and saw my brand new bike rolling down the hill. It only made it a few feet before it fell over. I apparently didn't put the kickstand the entire way down, or they may not have a lock on the kickstand on those bikes (Yamaha VStar) and the slope may have been just enough that it didn't matter. The good part about it was that the only accessory I purchased at the time of sale was an engine guard and I had stayed up the night before installing it. I only ended up with a few minor scratches on the bottom of the engine guard that were not visible at all, and a small scratch on the left mirror, and those I planned on replacing anyway.
I also tipped my last bike over one time backing out of the garage as I started making a turn with it. Again, I got off very easy since it tipped right into my front yard, and not a mark on the bike.
I'm learning that I need to be more careful when my bike is parked or moving very slowly with the engine off. I'm really hoping that these times dropping my bike qualify for legitimate times, so that I have those out of the way and never go down on a moving bike. I haven't done that since back in the days of riding dirt bikes, but my body could handle it back then.
