Could this be Synthetic Oil and Engine Noise?
« on: June 07, 2005, 10:10:22 PM »

Alrighty....

I'm hoping someone will be able to tell me if I'm on-target, or way off.

It appears as if..once the EVO warms up, I hear a slight rapping, or knocking when I come to a stop.

Could this be a thinning of oil due to heat, and causing the rap, or is this normal?

I don't recall it being prevalent all the time. I just happen to be listening more to the sound of the bike recently and wonder if this rap has been here all along.

When I rode my bud's 80" Fatboy a while back...it had the same occasional rap.

Diagnosis?

Yeah, 'er 'uh, neanderpaul,
My limited knowledge on the subject of Synthetic Oil is, it retains the same viscosity, cold or hot.  The sound, or rap, you refer to is normal, as far as I am concerned.  Later--HUBBARD

Always good to get another opinion.

I'm like a kid before xmas....the tank goes on tomorrow, and I'm getting all the replacement mirrors and pegs.

I'm considering new rear directionals as well. Smething a little sleeker than the bulbous things that came stock.

Depends on the oil. My TC makes alot of noise with mobil one, and not so much with syn 3. EVOS always made alot of noise.(Its an all aluminum shovel) Good motor...   First time I put mobil one in my evo it blew the base gaskets out, first ride.  Less than 20k.
