ALARM PAGER
« on: June 08, 2005, 11:51:24 AM »

Not being one to pass up a new electric doodad I bought the pager that goes with our alarms. Has anyone out there bought this and installed it.   [smiley=nixweiss.gif] Darned if I can figure it out. I tried three times and can't seem to understand the instructions or find the conecters they are talking about.  [smiley=nervous.gif] Anyway any help would be great before I pay the labor costs to have the dealer do it (they said they have never done one-oh good) Thanks for the help  [smiley=beerchug.gif]

P.S. The "Thunder in Sparks" run was great for its first attempt. West coast riders should check it out next year, plus its close to Freedom Cycle !!!!

I've not done one so the following is purely anecdotal.  A buddy tried one on a bagger but said he was unable to use it with his Power Commander.  Not enough space left behind the side cover and they both mounted in the same area.  Don't know for sure but it's what I've been told.

I installed mine last year, don't recall details, but you did have to get in behind the module under the side cover.  I also have a power commander now, but the tuner installed that.

With the unit on for a year how about a report Bill?  What does it actually do and how well?

Poor range, not impressed...brick buildings are a problem...shielded enclosures are a problem (of course).

Never had an incident to report.  Used in Maggie Valley always in range and the thin walls helped, in another hotel, I put the pager in the window in view of the bike...maybe 100yards limit.

Use while in a bar usually works.

I have had one installed on my 04 SEEG for about a year with following results. There are some limitations to how far the signal will travel and it does not penetrate well through buildings and other obstacles. As stated in previous threads if you park your bike outside or close to your room, and put pager in window and on audible alert it should work fine. If you are looking for another tool to deter/slow down any would be thief then this certainly would be a good investment. Along with the pager I use a disc lock, and cover the bike at night when travelling. I purchased all the above before my trip to Sturgis last year, and didn't have any problems. Hope this helps.

had pager on an 03 just tranferred it to the 05. transmtter goes on side of battery with some foam wrapping paper around it. the antenna i made a loop on top of existing wire harness . i think there was a y type cable that plugged in between the siren. just a couple of small nuts to take off to get to the siren. range about the same as everyone else. one feature is if the bike gets bumped it will send a code to the pager. sensitivty on the alarm is adjustable. hold button to arm and two quick clicks to disarm. if i had it to do over i would go for the product scorpion makes. the pager is two way and the alarm has a proximity sensor. not much cash difference from harley's offering.

Since the only way to try it is to have your bike stolen, I prefer not to try it   [smiley=laugh.gif]

However, it would be a nice thing to have!

There are several "LoJack" type systems on the market now. And I have thought about it, but;

What are the odds that the bike will be stolen and put INSIDE a trailer or truck, not driven where the LoJacks radio signal or the other brands GPS transmitter will be effective?

Benefit to LoJack is the complete coverage throughout the US, Canada and Mexico.  Their unit sends a clear signal inside concrete parking structures, so I would bet that it would work well inside a trailer.  Should it not, its' got to come  out of the trailer at some point and LoJack will then register in that area.

Hey BLM777.......have you got one of these systems?   What's the costs...I assume it's some form of monthly/yearly deal.   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]   spyder

Spyder....No, I don't have one, but have a close friend that has used the system for about 5 years.  Prior to that, he lost 3 Corvettes in less than a year.  After getting it, he lost 2, but they were recovered in less than 1 hour.  He's in LA, and said his insurance company wouldn't insure him without the system.  Can't really blame them with his history of parking them all night near some really nasty beer joints, staggerin' out with one of those  ol' dirty legs and havin' to take a cab home!   [smiley=beerchug.gif]
