FYI- Miles remaining 08 SEUC (probably all 6 gal. bikes)
« on: July 14, 2008, 02:22:21 PM »

When miles remaining drops below 35 the yellow fuel lamp turns on.

When miles remaining drops below 10 it stops countdown and displays LO.

This is a good point to refuel as tank will accept 5.85 gallons.

I think all bikes will be a little different.  I put 5.56 gal in about 3 miles after my SG's display went to LO.  I figured on mine, the yellow light came on with 1.0 gals left and the display switched over to LO when I had approx .5 gal left.   :nixweiss:

I rode mine until the display changed to "r Lo".  Might have been another 6 or 8 miles to the gas station (the bike actually sputtered about 100 yards from the gas station).  I put 6.28 gallons in my six gallon tank (according to the gas pump).

I will not be riding it down to "r Lo" again ;)

when mine gets to 0 it'll take 5-5.2 gallons, I fill it at 180 - 190 miles.

I top off just enough to never having to worry about running out.

I fill up when I hit 150 miles . You guy's are funny trying to see how low you can get , I would hate to push my bike to the station. As for splashing gas I do it 4 out of 5 times I fill up, Pisses me off every time . No one to blame except myself I guess.

I fill up after 180 miles. (150 miles if in High Speed mood)

Yes it is easy to splash fuel. - I blame the fuel-cap cover, it is hinged at the rear and moving up and aft, then blocking for the fuel hose.

You are supposed to add the Wink smiley!

If you were the only one doing this then yes, it is your problem...but many of us have the same problem as we attempt to fill our tanks with pumps and hose designed for cars and not bikes.

Don't you hate it when you get a pump with the hard trigger...you know you will be splashing with one of those!  Don't know why some are like this but  they are out there...

I thought it was just me.  Most of the time it's clean with no spills but more than my last bike it's messy.

I've done the "gas splash" once (so far).  I was filling the tank and a guy at another pump came over to talk to me about my bike.  Well, I was not watching or listening...and well the pump didn't kick off until gas was gushing up out of the tank >:(  I cleaned the gas off the bike as best I could and went straight home to wash the bike and wax the effected area.
I now always take my sunglasses off so I can try to see how full the tank is getting and pay attention.  I usually don't try to get the tank as full as I possibly can either.

After several tankfulls, the pattern I see on my 08 SEUC is that I get the 'r35' display around 170-180 miles, goes to 'lo' in about 20 miles.  Filling it at that point is usually within 1/10 either way of 5 gals.  I'm getting about 40 mpg doing a lot of back road riding - no sustained highway speeds.

I've been lucky with the gas pumps but I agree that the rear-hinged cover makes it a pain.  I always fill from the left and try to keep bike positioned so that the hose comes more from the front end of the bike so I don't have to worry about interference with the cover.

It's much easier filling the tank when you have a center stand for the bike and you fill straight down. 8)
