Like most guys I am guilty of avoiding visits to the doctor.

Even when a good friend called 5 years ago and asked me to get a check up I took two years to see the doc and another two now to get to the clinic for my colonoscopy procedure.

Is it just the time? Just the not knowing?  Just what is it that keeps many of us from getting to a doctor for check ups?  Guys are the worst.

Anyway, I have a friend with prostate cancer who has gone to the second round of it in just the past few months and he is coming to visit at the end of the month.  I have to get the colonoscopy before he arrives.  He motivated me to get my physical ultimately after that first friend I mentioned had passed away and this friend had been operated on for the prostate cancer.

So my message to all of my "friends" here is get your annual checks and if you are 50 or older and haven't gotten a prostate screen or a colonoscopy done, "Git 'er Dun"

I had the colonoscopy today and it is no big deal just a bit of time investment.

Right on Rjob and they knock your ass out-you don't even know you was violated....unless you get roses!! The success rate with early diagnosis is in the 90% range!

I had one done about three years ago. Glad I did although nothing serious had palups removed and my stomach isn't in total knots anymore because of it. Like the man says, GIT ER dun. THE MUFFMAN

Glad to hear you had this done, and thanks for reminding us to take care of our body's. I've had the colonoscopy done twice and on a regular rotation to have it done. I lost my sister to colon cancer so I started getting the procedure done in my early 40's because of the family history. As was mentioned it's a painless procedure and well worth the time if they find something early.

I had mine done at 39. There is family history. Like mentioned it was very simple. They put you under and you don't know anything was done. Just don't try to drive home afterward as you will be still under the influence of the drug.

As a prostate cancer survivor 2 years out, I applaud your encouragements to have regular physical checkups and colonoscopy examinations...

The best part is the monster fart after the procedure.  To most males amused by flatulance, that alone, is worth the price of admission. 

As a side note, colorectal cancer screening should begin annually after your 50th birthday unless you're an african american male or have family history, then earlier.  The colonoscopy is a confirmatory tool.  If you've had a positive stool test you should have one.  The stool tests have come a long way and there is one available now with no dietary restrictions and is 87% sensitive.  Don't waste your time with a sigmoidoscopy.  Greater than half the tumors are found in the ascending colon which can't be reached with a sigmoidoscopy.  Missing even one polyp can be dangerous.

I was a bit disappointed in this result, I guess when a person sets a high standard in regular life the effectiveness of the additional help is not as great
