It's a great sport for kids to get into. It is really about self respect. My 9 year old son has been taking it for about 2  1/2  years rising to level of green belt. THE MUFFMAN

Good to go...  My son has been involved in it since 3.

Have not found a training center we like here.

Good for your grandkids! The martial arts are such a great way for kids (and adults) to learn confidence, respect and too many other things to list here. I taught Kenpo Karate for 7 years and the pee wee class, 5 - 8 year olds, for 3 of those. I learned alot about kids, myself and parental relationships. I hope you and your kids are able to play an active roll in the grandkids participation. I can't wait untill our 1 year old grandson is old enough to start . It's never too late for you to start too either grandpa, at an affiliate school we had a 71 year old get his black belt!

I'll bet Kramer could take him.

Great pics, thanks for sharing.  You should be proud.

I've been training and teaching for about 25 years now... most kids who join the club are C or D students in school... after about two years of training they become A or B students.

Over the years there has only been one exception to this rule... she has my last name!

Fixed the problem and we awarded her her First Dan last December... she was in the Worlds last October and got a bronze and silver!

I have always said that it should be the parents who should be awarded the Black Belt... they are the ones who make sure the kids attend and train regularly.

Congrats on your grandkids success!

Thank you all...Anytime we as parents can put our kids in a position to learn confidence, discipline, and respect for others; we can't go wrong and the kids will learn that's really what it's all about. Finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, is great, but just the attempt and the completion of the event is the real lesson learned. When the tournament started I was concerned if my little fella would freeze up, get scared, or whatever and decide not to compete. Well, he went into it balls to the wall and held nothing back; as a result he accomplished his goal. Now that he thinks he's bad to the bone we have to work on humility now and I'm getting tired of walking around with the little turd trying to kick the S--T outta me :-[...A monster has been created; but I got something for him...Unless Kramer wants to take him on ;D

Sean, sometimes finding a place to train is like voting for president; vote for the one that sucks the least but make sure ya vote :2vrolijk_21:

murphy...Congrats to you and your daughter...That's impressive. My oldest is going to the "Battle Of Atlanta" next month...his first major tournament and he's looking forward to it...Thanks again

trapperdog...When I first started about seven years ago our school had a lady 67 years young earn 1st dan...Our instructor made it mandatory for us fellas to wear our cups when we sparred...she was only about 5' tall and her kicks were always south of the border :vrolijk27:

Tournaments are the only thing that I know of that can simulate the "flight or fight" response that occurs naturally in a real fight for your life.

The main reason they are held is to financially support the club holding the event, but the real benefits are in the experience of knowing you can perform under stress.

Thank you ak...The kids appreciate that. I know what ya mean about the time in; my oldest has been going since 4 years old and is 11 now while the little on has been at it since 4 also and getting ready to turn 6. They both study and train 4 days a week in the dojang and quite a bit at home. They enjoy it very much...Yes, the MMA scene seems to be the ticket these days. My oldest wants to get involved with another art that teaches more ground work. He's thinking of going out for High School wrestling when he gets to that grade. He's thinking the military and then maybe Law Enforcement as a career and wants to be physically and mentally ready for either...Of course I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE him to the Naval Academy and then the Marine Corps for his military selection...LOL...The best to your daughter in her martial arts experience :2vrolijk_21:
