Just got off the phone with the dealer.  Carving a very fine line between "a single cosmetic replacement" for the life of the motorcycle and "manufacturers defect."  Seems the peeling chrome was deemed a manufacturers defect which allowed dealers to replace under warranty.  To me, peeling paint is a manufacturers defect as well.  Maybe the dealer has been so whipped by the MoCo they are afraid to take on the Mother Company.  "Seamin' Eag" is starting to seem more and more appropriate for this motorcycle.

Yo Homie,
Sorry to hear about your latest attempt to get customer service at Rossiter's HD....I quit long ago.....I think their motto is:  4K over MSRP but we throw in the attitude for FREE!  [smiley=laugh.gif]

Too bad ya don't need a blue SEEG air cleaner, cuz mine is no longer needed...found something I like better than the football....maybe you should consider as well.

Find a new dealer.  As you suspect, these folks are blowing smoke up your tailpipe.  Cosmetic...not cosmetic....who cares?  If it's not right and it's not something you damaged it should be replaced under the warranty.  I've replaced a loooooong list of chrome defects ranging from grips to wheels and have never had a response other than "this is embarassing, we'll get it done" from the dealer.  Somebody is just too lazy to fill out the warranty claim and package the defective part for return!

Thanks for the feedback.  I was expecting an answer from the dealer just along the lines of "Wow, that's a shame, we'll get it taken care of ASAP."  The dealer is either lazy, scared to death to take on HD, incompetent, or just singing the company tune due to a large number of product quality issues.  Sometimes I wonder if HD has a dealer metric for not submitting a certain number of warranty claims.

Elvis,

Sounds great.  Went for a nice ride this morning.  I just put masking tape over the air cleaner cover when I go out.

Would love to ride!  Summer weather is so iffy here it is tough to plan.  Will probably harass the Robister's folks tomorrow and pick up a $35K hotdog.

Hey Elvis........Is that a 'spider' on you rear cylinder rocker-box or just a reflection?  I like the look of the air cleaner cover on the B&B!    [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] spyder

Yo Spyder,
Good eyes but that's a reflection of a palm tree here, not a hitchhiking arachnid...

Maverick,

Took your advice and that of Elvis.  Replaced the air cleaner cover with the Screamin' Eagle Fat Boy cleaner cover.  Looks good except for the little bit (about 1/4") of blue from the air cleaner showing.  Looks okay after a bit of touch up.  The wife is still looking for her mascara though.  Actually, Scripto pen came in handy.

If I can whine about the MoCo and dealer I can also comment when they do good things.  The dealer (Rossiters) took it upon themselves to contact the area service rep concerning the rubbed saddle bag trim strip.  Evidently there was a service bulletin on the brackets rubbing the trim and advised dealers how to adjust the brackets to eliminate the problem.  Since the service bulletins are not sent to owners, the dealer made the case that HD should take care of it.  They did and dealer installed replacement trim under warranty.

Now to the tour pak light.  The dealer had replaced a bulb which darn near burned the bike up (or down).  I had asked a Service Writer about the Tech Tip concerning the problem and was told that they had replaced the bulb and that was all that was needed.  Tech Tip did state rather than replacing the bulb, if a problem with the tour pak light was encountered, a new LED tour pak light should be installed.  Followed your advice and went back to the same Service Writer and told him I wanted the dealership to pulse HD to see if a replacement LED tour pak light was in order.  He did and HD authorized the replacement, also under warranty.

Took a bit more time than it should have, but all is well now.  Thanks to all for their support and advice! [smiley=1syellow1.gif]
