Good point. I suppose we do have to wait to see if the "fix" actually works or not. Personally I would've thought HD would have done the "fix" properly to include heads and cylinders. But then - that IS expensive and if they feel they can get by with this - then that's the way it'll be. And if we really want to fix the 110 properly - it'll probably have to come out of our own pockets. I truly love the power of this engine so unless HD comes out with a CVO that has a tried and true 113 or bigger - I'll probably keep fixing the 110. No way do I want to go back to a 96 - I've been too spoiled with the grunt and pull of the 110.

It has been 350 miles since the fix, the starter grinding noise is gone, no backfire through the intake, no deceleration pop, no knock or ping under acceleration, fuel milage is improved plus 42 mpg, was averaging 36.

I would suggest pursuing the rockerbox rattle issues, noises are isolated to 2300 to 3300 RPM's, this is noticeable & nagging during the optimum country road cruising RPM's it can be eliminated if I LUG the engine or accelerate at a spirited pace.

Jerry is right. They have to something, even if it is wrong! Have you noticed how many 08 CVO's are still sitting on the showroom floor? I can tell you that they are out there. There once was a time when you had to wait in line to buy a CVO. Not anymore. Higher production numbers and poor quality in Harley's Flagship have left a sour taste in a lot of peoples mouths.

My guess with the head replacement is that there is more heat and stress on the motor in the Ultras then in the other models. The HD engineers think they can get away with new guides and acr's. Will this work on the other models? TIME WILL TELL!!!!!

THE DAWG

Dawg,
I agree with you that higher production numbers are a cause of more bikes still sitting on the floor today, but disagree that the problems with the 110's is why the CVOs are still on the floor.  I think the CVOs are still sitting on the floor with both the combination of higher production numbers and the current state of the economy.  Motorcycles are considered luxuries even though they get better gas mileage, and people are pinching their pennies a little more today and are not willing to shell out $35K for a motorcycle like they were a couple of years ago when gas was cheaper and the economy was a little better.  IMHO I think it's just a sign of the times that there are still 08 CVOs sitting on the floor and actually has nothing to do with the engine.  Most people outside of this forum don't have a clue about the head gasket and crank run-out issues and unless they happen upon this site before they buy a CVO, they're not going to know and will buy the bike, or like some of us, bought the bike anyway, even knowing the potential issues.  Harley is cutting back on production for 09 and I think you'll see less 09's on the floor at the end of the year, simply because there will be less 09's made.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it!   ;)

The number one reason Harley is not selling CVO's as fast as before is the economy. I work in the auto industry, cars like the Corvette Z06 are not sitting, dealers are discounting, before they were full retail plus. The economy in our country is pretty bad, the average working person is being pinched from all sides.

Let's all hope the 110 fix works.

I got my letter on the 18th, it was dated the 13th which was the day I picked up the bike with all the work already done  :cherry:

It's been a week, not one nasty starter noise, hope I NEVER hear that again!

The engine is pulling strong, the oil pressure when cold is higher than I've seen in the past but it does drop to a lower pressure after warming up.

The Rocker Box noise is not prevalent during initial cold running, but when she is well warmed, the rattle is back  :( but only in a narrow range of RPM's which I generally ride in.

So how many have had it done and who is waiting????

Now we have a problem with noise in the top end. I think that might be something that we will have to live with. Still DECIDING on rather to pick up the Dyna or not. They are going to do the fix before I do pick it up.

Now the question will be. Do I ride it and leave it alone or do I do a big inch ground up motor????

Read the post about the recall around August 4-checked the web site put in the VIN and voila! Made the appointment the following Monday for both for August 21-22. Called to confirm the parts were in August 20. Dropped the bike off and went to pick up last night to find they did NOT have the heads and haven't even ordered them yet-needless to say I am not very happy. Already this bike since March has been in their garage more than my 03 SERK! Sorry that is all I have at this point. Considering cam and head work since I am now waiting 2-3 weeks.

Hi Folks,
Just bought my first Harley  - a 2007 SERK. It was previously owned, 1 owner and had
1600km (1000m) on the clock.

Warranty runs out Jan 2009.  Worried about all of these comments re recalls etc.
Have not ridden it much (live in Singapore - traffic + 80deg) and am concerned.

Will be contacting the only dealer here tomorrow to find out if they will carry out
the 0906 recall.

No leaks as yet, but don't want to find them a month after warranty expires.

Although worrisome, if it were not for this forum I would know nothing about it.

Many thanks to all of you.
