What if your engine does not leak?

I just talked to my dealer and they mentioned that all the engine "improvements" will only be done as long as they have failed. Say that the head gaskets are not leaking even though the bike has the old type gaskets... or the ACR's have not given any problems, then they will only take care of what is damaged..... I can't believe that this is true. If your engine fails say on a leak or if the ACR's are not working properly, I cannot believe that Harley will not do all the issues that they know are wrong, so if you get a head gasket change, in that same operation they will change the ACR's at the same time.....

What is it to be? does anyone know?

We just paid peanuts for our CVO's, so don't expect much from the manufacturer.... surely that is not the case  :-\

Anyone knows?

Your dealer is wrong (fos actually).  These 'enhancements' will be made to all bikes whether they have exhibited the failure or not.  The intent is to get all the 110s up to current design & production specifications.

I would call the Police and report that my Harley was stolen and replace with a Yamaha


My 110 leaked - alot.........
but the 2008 96in SG has been dry so far - only 3100 miles though

Just squirt a little oil down by the back cylinder base gasket and you have a leak. There is a picture of where the oil appeared on the I have a leak thread. :2vrolijk_21:

THAT'S NOT TRUE....have you ever heard of the MoCo doing a recall to update to current design? Remember the cam bearing issue in 1999? Only fixed ones that were showing signs of failure. All the new ones had the update but they will NOT be a total recall just to have the updates done....I saw some of the postings here stating that but the repairs/updates will only apply to the bikes with problems, (because they do not apply to all bikes even from the same time line discussed) That's what's being explained at the dealer show anyway. Not a ramdon fix all.

Since they will be sending letters to owners, I think it would be a very hard sell to tell the owner with one of the bikes. "P.S. If your motorcycle is not showing any signs of problems, please disregard this letter."

Based on the way they are handling this, all owners, of the affected bikes, will be elgible for the "upgrades".

I fully agree with you,

Now I just have to convince the Spanish dealer that they read the info back to front...

By the way, I went for a ride down to the harbour and coming back I raced a CBR 600 RR  :orange: :mango: :bananarock:. While I was up front I managed to leave the road and did some dirt tracking. Once back on the road and from standing still, I saw that little bugger dissapear in he horizon. I managed to make the limit switch kick in twice and then gave up.

Apples and Oranges, as simple as that, but I still love my bike.

Who cares as long as you are asleep........

Sure hope that's true, but it's not what was told to me. I guess we really won't know til we try to get all the repairs---oops , enhancements done.

From the wording of the letter to the dealers and from what I was told I stand by my statement that all affected 110s will get the 'fix.'  Letter clearly states that some motors may have had some of the 'enhancements' but will still be eligible for the others to bring them up to current standards.

Yessir, and all I did was ask my service writer to verify that I heard a strange noise, wink, wink.  Did the upgrade on the bike with about 7k on the clock.  No failure, no issue, just did it.

 I wonder if he valve guide problem means a head swap, and if so will the new heads have the new 110 tag. You know the early 110's had the silver tag ( that fades ). And I guess if you had head work done on your heads you just lost all that work and have to start over.

My dealer already committed to doing the repairs on my bike as soon as the parts are available. They never said anything about existing problems having to be appearant before the repairs could be made. If that is the case, I will figure out a way to get the thing to leak !!!  :huepfenlol2:
