Test Rode the '09 SE Ultra
« on: July 27, 2008, 08:57:22 AM »

Yesterday at Appalachian HD.  Didn't care for the color of it but it was a damn nice bike.  The shield is about perfect for me, same as on my '07 Ultra, about 9", if it were smoked there would be no reason to change it.  The 180 rear tire looks GREAT on there, didn't really feel it in the handling either which concerned me a little.  The rear fender is HUGE now, the turn signal bar barely fits on it anymore.  Since it was a test ride bike it had already been on 12 10 mile rides yesterday before I got on it, not much down time between rides.  The heat was almost no issue at all, even my 103" '07 is HOT, didn't notice any heat on this SE though.  Moving the exhaust was probably a good thing, not so sure it even needs the mid-frame deflectors now.  I reached down there with my hand and the heat was nothing compared to my '07.  The new seat is great, the stripe down the middle is kinda weird, probably looks better on a different color combo but it was comfortable....I'm a function over form kinda guy.....Anyways, here are some pics.....BTW, the fender tip light on the back of the regular Ultra's.....I think it's going to double as a Highway Information Sign, it's BIG...and UGLY....but the 180 tires do look good....(oh did I say that already).....

Looks great, what fender tip light are you referring to?  Whats the strip in the middle  of the seat, material wise?  You really can't tell from the pics, but it almost looks like the alcanta that's on the Fat boob.

Adding my two cents: Just got the new catalogs from the dealer. I figure the function's pretty well worked out, so the only thing I can critique is really the form. IMHO- I was sort of underwhelmed with the color choices on the Ultra's. Where's the punch? The orange and silver shown in the tread is sort like the current orange and silver (no disrespect), just would have thought a bigger color change between years would have happened. The sharpest CVO, and I'm not really a Road Glide guy, but the orange and black Road Glide looks very cool in the catalog.

No really big changes for 09 except the frame (I was told to better accomodate the trike mod!) and the dropped exhuast, which should give the aftermarket exhaust people a fit.

I had told the wife "she'd best hope that something fantastic doesn't come out this year or I'm trading up to the CVO Ultra". Right now, I'll stick with my  08 FLHRSE4. Besides, isn't the big model change in '10? I keep hearing water cooled Harley???? First Global warning and now this!

The fender tip light is on the regular Ultra, not the SE....don't know what the material was, looked strange on that color combo though...

Yeah the changes to the frame are obvious around the rear of the trans....I looked for the other link they were suppose to have added but couldn't find it.

What's the chance these demo bikes have been richeded with a SERT so as not to scare away potential buyers.

As far as being interested, not. I like the red one, but I'm holding my hand now. No reason to throw it all in and start over. Nope, not interested.

What's the chance these demo bikes have goldwing motors in them painted to look like v twins so as not to scare away potential buyers?

Probably a lot less than having a SERT tune. ;)

Interestingly the chrome strips on top of the panniers are shown in some of the moco pics, but are not present on the one in your picsm Fr8! :confused5:
