Pipe protector???
« on: July 30, 2008, 02:57:29 PM »

Hi All,

I know I've seen these but can't remember where.  Can you help???

They are rails that attach to your floor boards and protect your boots from touching your pipes and leaving a nasty mark to clean off.

I am aware of the "Boot Dr." which does the same thing, but the ones I'm looking for are chrome rails.

Does anyone have any ideas?

       Thanks!

Grizzly,

Check out these - chrome heel guards -

http://www.motorcyclepartsandapparel.com/bagtec-heel-guards--floorboards.html

It says chrome plated.

There are commonly two versions of the heel guards availalble.  One that stands up beside the footboard and continues wrapping around behind it.  The other stands up beside the boards and continues to the rear a bit turning staight down beside it.

That latter type is what I've used on a few bikes for a long time.  I mistakenly got one of the other type (that wrap behind the foot board) once and hated it.  Because it is above board level and standing behind it you lose a lot of space in which you can move your foot.  The guards that stay parallel to the inside of the board still keep you off the pipe.  They just do so without blocking any front to rear travel for places you might want to rest your foot.

Heres the first image I found that shows at all well the heel guard that stays parallel with the inside of the foot board.  Click the picture and it'll enlarge a bit to see the smaller detail better.

where did you get the heat tape?  I have some on my Power Curve and after getting caught in the rain and washing last week it's unraveling under the heat guard.

Yours looks like its staying tight and neat - reason I ask.

Sean,

One of the premier short track chassis shops in the country is right down the street from me.  LeftHander Chassis, owned by Wayne Lensing.  Wayne is a family friend from way back...  I bought the heat wrap from him...  I buy my Redline products from him also.

15 ft. x 2" roll - black - 053 010121  $12.99  (I bought two of these and had plenty left over)  Wrap it tight with generous overlaps and secure the ends with stainless steel hose clamps and it will stay in place.  Greatly reduces heat to the leg....
