Question on 110 recall
« on: August 03, 2008, 07:26:14 PM »

Greetings to all....I have a question on the 110" recall for my CUSE2.  Although I have had my rocker boxes "cleared" by my dealer, I am still unhappy with the amount of top end noise I am getting.  I know there is a redesigned rocker box available now that is suppose to offer more clearance.  Of course that is not included in the recall kit!  My question is the best way to go about trying to get this included in the recall repair.  I have never opened a customer service claim with the Motor Company, but I am wondering if based on everyone's experience would it be better to open a case with the MOCO and then deal with my dealer, or is that going to tick them off and make them less likely to help, or ask the dealer to go to the MOCO on my behalf?  A simple question, but it could make a difference.  The top end noise is just driving me bonzo!

Thank you.

I don't believe you can unless you pitch a hissy with customer service and they or the dealer decide to do it to appease you.   I would first try the dealer and then go to the moco.   I wish you a luck, but doubt it will come to fruition for you.   Might just try and pay for the new boxes and have them put on for free when they replace your heads, and compression releases.   Least it is only parts then and not labor too.

If your valve springs are still hitting, it will be easy to tell if more clearance is necessary. If there is no evidence of conact with the box sides, then changing the boxes won't make any difference.

I have some of the new lower rocker boxes on the bench.  I will take a few photos and post later.  The rockers are fitted to the head and centered on the head using some home made tools.  Plenty of clearance everywhere except on or two spots.  You will see in the photo.  Only will need a little amount removed.

They are mounted to Screaming Eagle 110 plus heads.

Here are the photos I promised.  One is attached and the others can be seen at

The big knurled bolts are alignment pins I made for centering everything up.  Claybal also had a great idea of just using the Jim's Tappet Alignments bolts screwed into the center bolt holes for the filter/separator assembly.

The areas circled in red will only need a small amount of material removed.
