ACR's, how can you tell they are damaged?
« on: August 04, 2008, 05:14:16 PM »

Anyone who has had the ACR's replaced, I would like to know what were the symptoms.
As most of you are either on the side of the ones who have had their bikes already split or on the list to have it done, I have an FXSTSSE2 08 (february) and got the notice on the H-D web that I'm due for a gasket replacement.
Problem is I also have a crankcase bolt leak and I feel my engine runs on 1 & 1/2 cylinders, as if the rear one was not helping much. My dealer tells me that they will ONLY replace the gaskets as per bulletin received. That sounds stupid, but that's another story.

So if any of you have had the ACR problem, they might be able to tell me what it feels like, apart from being totally and utterly pi$$ed off with H-D and their dedication to CVO owners  :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox:

Perform a cranking compression check. ~150 psi means they are working. ~220 means they are not.

Hi Chief,

I thought that the problem was that once burned or damaged they remained open at all times leaving the compression lower, not allowing then to raise the compression to normal operation conditions. On the other hand if the solenoid burns, 1 some fuse on your bike blows and then they don't open at all, making the starting of the engine a difficult one for the starter; then again,....it could happen that a burned solenoid does not allow the valve to move and once seized it could remain open or closed. In my case there is a clear lack of power from my rear cylinder, affecting all the power band, but it feels worse as I take off from idle and idle being very "lumpy" :-\

Regardless of whether they will only change gaskets on the recall - errrr - product enhancement or whatever they are calling their bogus effort, the thing is still under warranty and they would have a hard time proving that 1 1/2 cylinders is normal (not that they won't try).  Mine shakes horribly at idle, but the ACRs seem to be working.

They replace the ACRs under "the fix" also.  So that hopefully will take care of your issues.

Spanish Flyer,
I hope that won't be the case for you on this one.  This "product enhancement" is supposed to be for all 07-08 CVO's produced, including the HDI models...so you're supposed to be included in "the fix".  If they tell you differently over there, you need to call them on it.
