none DOT helmet
« on: August 04, 2008, 08:26:08 PM »

I now most of you guys wear DOT helmets but I did a quick trip to Sturgis and went through Grand Island NE. I was stopped by a city cop and forced to buy a DOT approved Helmet from the H.D. dealer. So if your going that way you may want to go around G.I. We where told at the dealer the chief has trained his cops to spot none DOT helmets and stop all how pass through town.

A couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine was riding on 75 south just right outside of town here and a State Trooper came up behind him then pulled along side of him then pulled him over for a non DOT helmet. Didn't help that he had some profane stickers also. That ticket cost him $185. I dropped that same amount on a Carbon Fiber DOT skully just so I could avoid that encounter. If you are wondering, they are looking for the DOT sticker on the back and in my friends case, he had to remove his helmet and the cop looked inside of it for the DOT tag that is suppose to be sown into the liner.

Just came back from Orlando.  While there visited "Head Trip".  Very nice people, great helmets and by far the smallest DOT helmets in the market and they gave me 10% discount and no sales tax.
Here is their website:
http://www.carbonfiberhelmets.com/

There is a thread in here about their helmets also.

The real kicker is I've traveled that way many times and always stop for (gas, food, beer or a motel) but now I'll go around and tell every one I see to do the same. Some times you have to think (way are they thinking) o'well there loss.
