Pro-Pipe VS FatCat
« on: August 08, 2008, 09:21:43 AM »

Morning everyone...

Since delivery, my SEEG has had a Pro-Pipe...actaully I had them all the bikes I've had, except for a nostaglic Springer...but anyway..

This year I switched over to V&H big shot duals, needing a change I guess.. :-\

Long story longer...I'm going back to a 2 into 1, but have a couple of questions for those in the know..

I like the Fatcat's look but know little of these pipes. Plus, they're about $220 more than a Pro-Pipe, so I'm seeking feedback, not on the sound (I'm sure that's fine) but on the bluing (browning in the case of the Pro-Pipe), plus is it really comparable in TQ and HP as the Pro-Pipe..??

Thanks...

Phattey

I had a ProPipe on my SERG, replaced it with the FatCat.
Got better torque and H/P down low with the ProPipe but better horsepower and torque up high with the Fatcat.
Put the ProPipe back on the SERG.
The FatCat will go on the 09 SEUC4.

Hi Ron.  I've got FatCats on the SEEG and love it.  Great down low and through all the driving range.  Good sound with the "quiet baffle" option (this I'm told gives a little better down low than their other baffles).  And excellent fit and finish.  I liked it so well I put the same exhaust on the SERG.  Different engine entirely and it works great there too.

So you'll have it tuned with a SERT but won't be able to keep the key with the bike?  That's a little risky if you crap out on the road somewhere...  :-\

Don

I'm of the opinion that on a stock bike the ProPipe works better than the Fatcat.
On a larger displacement motor that's been modified the FatCat works best.
But what do I know?
Everything I know I learned on CVO Harley.com.

It very well may work better Chip.  I never had the ProPipe for direct comparison.  I know with the slightly larger displacement and slightly stepped up CR on the red bike it works wonderfully.

On the SERG I can only compare against the p-poor Samson duals that were on it.  Compared to them the FatCats come in much earlier and last longer.  Having said that the engine still doesn't fully catch it's breath and really want to take off until 3000-3200.  It's ok from about 2600.  But you really feel it reach its stride about 3200.  I have no idea, however, whether other exhaust would bring it in much earlier (without significant sacrifice elsewhere) or whether that's much more a function of the cam selection in the engine.

Hmmm...

My bike is not really modded...SEAC, PC, and tune only...that's it...so maybe I may need to buy another PP...

Sure like the FatCat look though...plus my PP not only "browned" up but the chrome always peels off the end caps...

FatCat looks like better quality.

Rinehart 2-1 good performance, solid build and little abrasive when goosed, if you like that sort of thing.

I have Pro-Pipe on an 06 Road Glide 98" 10.2 compression and head work and I love it. It has not Browned or Blued. The Chrome did peel of the end cap and I just polished it to the aluminum.
The D&D Fat Cat Quiet Baffle is on a 04 SSEG Pumpkin non modified engine. only roll your own are cleaner. The pipes perform great and sound great. The fit and finish is way beyound the looks of the Pro-Pipe.

The wife enjoys the ride much better behind the Fat Cat's. She cannot stand the sound of the Pro-Pipe. If I had to purchase another exhaust it most definely will be another set of Fat Cat's. The a$$ dyno also agrees with the Fat Cat's.
