Need new battery......cranking slow at first.
« on: August 08, 2008, 11:28:47 AM »

I still have the original battery in my 04. I  use my battery tender religiously. But, its been cranking slow latley. I better get  new one before its too late. My bro in law bought a cheap one from Auto Zone, he had to put the chemicals in and seal it, thats a new one on me. But, has anyone bought the new gel batteries? I have to do some research on those, I'm told they hold up very well. Any thoughts?

And the new ones accept a second post screw (vertically) to allow mounting an extra terminal (or three) without being on the end of the threads of the cable terminal.

Harley is awfully proud of their's at $150 but I bought one just the same.  As 2Lane stated, the extra set of terminals is nice.

I just purchased one from EBAY, looks to be same as Harley Battery. Also has top mount for added connections. It worked great!!!!
Only $90.38 delivered by FedEX.

What is this extra terminal you speak of? Do you mean for the pigtail for the battery tender and extra devices such as that?

Changing a battery will not lose/change your SERT but you will have to reset your preset radio stations and auto volume control.

The 2 extra battery lugs makes it easy in adding accessories to your battery and leaves the main starter cables/battery tender cables on a seperate connection.

I remember back when you had to replace them every year if you were on a bagger.

I'm happy with four years :2vrolijk_21:

Hey I have experience with that!!  Sucks when you're out riding when it decides to finally give up the ghost!  SUCKS!  This one will be "religiously" on the battery tender from here on out.  I never once plugged up the Vrod on a tender and never once had a problem.  Regardless, lesson well learned.  It was the original battery too.   :2vrolijk_21:

Yep you sure didn't but I DID!!!!! It went south a few times.

Was at the dealership today and picked up a new battery. They have gone way up. Parts Manager said the price of lead drove them up. $120.00 after my discount.
