Who's replaced their shocks?
« on: August 08, 2008, 09:54:24 PM »

I'm looking for a little help and advise from the forum regarding shocks.  I've got 23K on my bike, and lately I've noticed that everytime I go to check the air pressure on the shocks, they are down.  I'm thinking maybe it's time to replace the stock air shocks and not sure whether to look for other air shocks or go with standard type shocks.  Appreciate if you guys could give me some input on what you've done with your bikes.  As always, I know I'll get the best information here :2vrolijk_21:

Although this are not "my" shocks, mine like look almost the same (just a little less sex appeal).
The Bitubo's well worth the money.

You actually had Showa air shocks that held air pressure for any length of time?

The least expensive of the various "good" upgrades are the Progressive 440s.  The other standard shock, generally accepted to be even better, but also more expensive are the Bitubo pictured above.

Air ride or air shock systems also have a few options.  Generally more expensive than either standard shock type.  Legends are probably the most commonly represented here but there are others as well.  As suspension options they are reported to be generally good.  Likely not as good a true suspension component as the Bitubo shocks.  But you gain the height adjustability on the fly.  So it all factors in.

Like 2LN said, it all depends on what you want the shock to do. Do you need to lower the bike to get on (not to imply that your are height handicapped or anything)? Do you want to be able to lower/raise the bike on-the-fly? Or, are you looking for performance?

Sounds like a lot of great info.  I don't need to lower the bike, just want to know that the suspension is there when I need it.  I ride two up most of the time and often we travel with a lot of stuff, so I usually am heavy.  I keep checking the air shocks I have and realized it's time for a change.I will check out the bitubos to see what they have to offer.  Is there any group discount that anyone is aware of?

I believe that the Bitubo's are only available from www.traxxion.com here in the US. They are made in Italy (?) and imported.

hd-dude is set up for them I believe on the west coast.

I have a SEUC with 440's and a SEEG with bi-tubos.  Both bikes handle great with the AK 20's in the front forks from Traxxion as well.

I'm goint to get the AK-20's done on Friday at Yraxxion. I didn't realize that Jim handled the Bitubo's. Even better.

I got my Bitubos at Traxxion for a very reasonable price, but I'm pretty sure that's out the window now.  I know Jim will provide a great deal if he carries them.  Easy do-it-yourself installation.  There was a bit of a learning curve to get them set up properly, but now that I've found that "sweet spot"  I never change the settings whether two-up or solo.  Awesome ride, and coupled with the AK-20s, it becomes very easy to forget one is riding a 900 lb touring machine.

You might try prssuring them up to above 35 and then spraying soapy water on all of the air line connections to find the leak.  Most likely the shocks are fine.  Of course this does give one an excuse to upgrade!
