Chrome Inner Primary
« on: June 22, 2005, 11:46:50 AM »

Has anyone out there added a chrome inner primary? The HD part not the partial cover. My dealer is offering me a deal on the installation. I'm not sure about busting the primary open though. Possible leaks etc...

I remember at least a couple here who have.  In my case no, but not for lack of interest.  Just laziness.  However, first time the guts have come loose in the primary I'l change mine.

No dealer is beyond mistake (Lord knows.....).  But working inside the primary is so straight forward and should be so common for them that it's something I'd really not worry a great deal about.  If they're making you a really good deal and if you'll like the look better than go for it why you've got a chance to save some bucks.

Yeah, 'er 'uh, osmacat,
I have used Brown's Plating for years.  I took delivery of my 2002 FLHTCUI "Led Sled", in October of 2001.  Had all the chroming done, including the inner primary, before I ever rode it.  I've had the inner primary off and on many times, during MODS.  It has never leaked, and still looks like new!  Later--HUBBARD

Os... Osm... Osa... Osm... Oh damn it's hard being EVIL.  I so want to... well, you know.... ARRRRRGH.   [smiley=nervous.gif]

Cat, [smiley=laugh.gif] The primary covers (inner and outer) used to be structural pieces, so they were more prone to leaking... not anymore... on the TC motors they are just covers.

And so torqued down properly they shouldn't leak.  Change away.  [smiley=beerchug.gif]

Have you checked on the inner primary COVER.  I have had both.  I have the COVER on my SEEG and have received several complements on it.

Is this the cover you're referring to:

http://www.kuryakyn.com/products.asp?bn=harley&ci=2373

If so it' should be a strong consideration for someone thinking about doing their inner primary.  I had one of these on each of the last two Road Kings.  Whole lot cheaper of course.  And it adds a perspective of depth and shape that the inner primary by itself does not.  Good idea if someone is interested, glad you mentioned it.

I have both, but not on my seeg.  I added the Kuryakyn cover on my 95 special and i've been pretty happy with it.

I added the true chrome inner primary to my 03 ultra and I love it.  I also will switch over at the first opportunity on my seeg2.  Looks great on the 03 and It'll look even greater on the seeg2.

I used the HD inner primary cover.  It is in the new accessory book, but my book is at the house (on my nightstand of course).

Had the dealer put on the chrome inner primary when they did the 6 speed, no labor charge that way.  No leaks, 2500 mi.  Had the Kuryakyn cover on my other bike, only problem is if it isn't kept snug, it will rattle and drive you nuts trying to find the problem.

Thanks for the heads up on this! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]  I've been considering the full inner primary or the Kuryaken cover.  I like the looks of the Kuryaken cover better than the full inner primary.

I did the inner primary last July. I have since had it off to install the 6 speed. It ahs never leaked and looks great. I would not hesitate to have it installed.

Is this a new item?  If you can, please scan and post a photo when you get a chance.  Thanks!

I've used several of the K''n inner covers on several of my resale bikes over the past few years to add a little bolt on "buyer appeal".  Really like the looks, but have had several that created a vibrating rattle.  As a precaution, I use a very thin (1/16") rubber washer spaced about every 3-4" along the underside of the inside edge attached with PermaTex or similar adhesive.  I've found that this "preventitive" measure assures no rattle or flex on the inside portions of the cover.  A lot of bang for the buck on dressing up the left side.

PS....I have no idea where that smilie came from and can't get it out.....just wanted ya'll to know that I hadn't finally lost it!

BLM, a " and ) together create that smilie when the smilies are turned on in a post.  I editied your post to turn 'em off, so it's gone now.  You get another funky smilie like that when you run three question marks together like this: ???  Only with that one, it seems to usually make sense with what people are posting.

By adding the full chrome inner primary, does it not look like,  (blasphemous remark coming) too much chrome on that side?
