FXR4 Evo info
« on: August 13, 2008, 04:34:34 PM »

Hi Guys & another question:
I would like to know if there were any factory engine modifications done to the 2000 FXR4.I had a FXR3 and it ran like a Rolex,my FXR4 runs excellent and very strong.I have ridden a number of FXR family machines and I am surprised at the amount of punch the 4 has.Believe me,I did not want to get rid of the 3 but I had to.
Thanks

To my knowledge, and I'm pretty sure, the CVO FXR series bikes all had stock Evo motors from the factory.  Of course, if you're not the original owner, there's a "who knows" factor to the motor you've inherited with the bike, as many have been at least slightly tweaked.

It would stand to reason that even a factory Evo might feel better than stock in a FXR frame in that the design was lighter and more efficiently transfers torque (stiffer) to the rear wheel than, say Dynas.

My 3 runs like a Swiss watch, too, but I wouldn't call it "strong."  Vis-a-vis the 95 and 103 inch Twin Cams I have, it definitely feels like the 80 cube baby of the bunch that it is.  I look forward to waking it up a bit someday, but in the meantime, I'm just enjoyin' the ride! ;D

My 3 runs like a champ too...but at 275, I'd really have to tweak that to get it to zip. So, I let it be and enjoy the ride. Speed ain't as important at 40 as it was at 20. I'll take reliable over fast every time.

The only difference should be with the CA models. They had a different cam than the 49 state version. So if you tried a CA FXR3, a non-CA FXR4 would feel more responsive. But all the stock cams sucked anyway. Evo's need carb, pipes, ignition, cam, and head porting, maybe a little more compression too. An 80" Evo, setup like that on a light bike like the FXR, FLIES!!! !:huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3:

Of course a 5/8 leg (89") doesn't hurt either!!! ::) ;D ;)

What's been said already.  Open up the air and that adds some h/p.  Change the cam, carb ignition and that changes things too.  Is your 4 bone stock?  Was your 3 bone stock?  Not even breathin' cleaner air?  Perhaps you said and I missed it.  Anyway, I've always thought my 4 had more speed but my twin cam definitely has more power.
