Can anyone give me some info on the leather panniers fitted to my fathers roadking,he would like to know if they are waterproof or will he need to find covers or something to put contents inside. Thanks in anticipation.

John,

Any saddlery will have quality dubbin which your father should treat his "panniers" with and as a back up, keep anything in the saddlebags in plastic bags.  I often get caught in tropical downpours and have not had any trouble....yet.

Actually, I kinda like Immence Lorry Match... Almost takes the Red out of the Neck.   :D

Let me Queue up here to answer the question.  I've never seen leather panniers that are completely watertight.  Although they will stop water in a light drizzel they will still allow water to creep in a severe downpour.  I'd reccomend waterproof liners, at least for a long trip.  Garbage bags work quite well as waterproof liners and they're only a few pence a piece.

Ride Safe,
