install of 0906: PRD PGM:07/08 CVO 110 GASKETS
« on: August 16, 2008, 10:37:37 AM »

I have an 08 SERK with 7,500 miles on it and no leaks. Bought it in May 2008. Yesterday I had a handlebar bar scheduled to put on 14 inch Wild 1 bars. When the dealer called me to come and sit on my bike for handlebar adjustment purposes, my motor was being worked on. The 0906: PRD PGM:07/08 CVO 110 GASKETS 110 kit arrived at the dealer and they just went ahead and started the recall work. I'm supposed to pick the bike up today.

I had the bike Dyno tuned. I read on a post that the ECM can lose data with this kind of work done but I don't know. I guess I'll have to ask and rely on what the dealer tells me unless somehere can inform me what I should look for or ask the dealer.

Is this true? I doubt it because I just had the work done and so far my bike runs just like it did before. I have a Super SERT and am running a map from Latus HD. My bike runs great both before and after the upgrade though I just picked it up  from the dealer thursday. Went 30-40 miles so far and no issues.

The ECM doesn't lose any data.  What some folks were trying to say in another thread is that they felt H-D should pay for another custom tune on those bikes that had been dyno tuned previous to the "Upgrade".  The theory was that replacing the heads could affect the tune.

Short answer (my opinion) is that you will not experience enough difference to be noticeable.  And I can assure you that H-D will not be paying for any custom dyno tunes.  Those custom tunes are a violation of emissions regulations, and if they pay for them they are guilty of tampering.  The fines for that start out at merely "really big" and move up to "humongous".

..."rely on what the dealer tells me".

Perhaps the seven most expensive words in the English language.  It used to be five when dealing with the MOCO: "This time things are different".

What about the evil four words?

How about the ACR work.  What they do to ACR (I'm not sure what they do) doesn't affect your engine?  Doesn't that change your compression? :nixweiss:

Not unless broke.  They open up and relieve compression to allow the engine to turn over quicker and start.  I believe they are normally closed so broken would not open up making extra work for the starter.

Mine are broken or sticking and it makes a horrible grinding noise when they do not work. Glad I have an extended warranty, because when the starter goes they can replace that for free too!!!!!!! Supposedly - about 600 miles ago - there was no metal in the primary fluid no broken teeth on any sprockets etc........ we will see...... Have 700 mile trip coming up tomorrow thru the weekend and then into the ship for 0906 a week from today

bikebehaviorist,
I wish you all the best on your journey. I too, will be taking a trip, however, not as long; only 562. El Paso to San Antonio. I made a reservation to have the gasket recall and fuel issue fixed. At the same time will have the 5,000 mile service done it.
