bad rod bearing
« on: August 18, 2008, 05:44:17 PM »

Has anyone come across bad rod bearings? I have an 2001 SERG with less than 40k on it. From what I'm told you cannot rebuild them. Any ideas out there? Thanks for your inputs......

I have seen it, but only on high mlage motors, last one was 90K. Have you pulled the jugs and measured the end play with a feeler guage?

The front rod goes side to side about 1/2", nothing up and down. The back moves very little. I did compare this to a motor with 29K on it and mine has a lot more play.

WOW that is a lot of side to side movement.........From memory, per the service manual, if you can fit a .020 feeler guage between the rod and thrust washer the crank must be replaced. Like Hogasm stated they can be repaired. I have used rev. performance.
