Anyone Else Dragging Their Big Radius Pipes?
« on: August 19, 2008, 05:31:48 PM »

The 2008 Springers handle so well with the 18" front tire, but I sure wish it had more ground clearance. My pegs, forward control base, and even my pipes are getting ground down.I know it's not a sport bike, but it doesn't take much lean angle at all to drag everything.

I have the flat black big radius and yes they do drag, but it's on the inside of the bottom pipe so it doesn't look bad.

No don't know Stick.  The Elliots landing strip is just down from the house.

As for scrapping the pipes I just tell my wife it's like a curb feeler.  It's there to tell me the ground is getting close.

I've got a Big Radius 2-1 and don't have any problem dragging it.  You might check your rear shock/spring adjustment.  Mine was delivered sitting as low as it would go and I drug everything.  I've since taken the adjustment up to about mid-way and now only occasionally drag the side stand.

Definitely, but it's still not smoothest bike I've ridden.  I was absolutely sick over the ride on my trip home from the dealership.   :nixweiss:  I didn't realize at first that I was bottoming until I adjusted it up.  The mid-setting is perfect for me and my other half riding two-up.  If she didn't ride so often with me, I'd adjust it back down slightly to find the sweet spot for ride vs. clearance.

I've scraped my V&H Big Radius 2-2 twice and have since been more careful when turning. I also scrape my Ness 3" extended forward controls, but I was kinda expecting that. I'm reluctant to mess with the suspension, as my bike rides pretty good, but the scraping is annoying.

If you have been dragging the front pegs, watch out for it tripping your bike. To night I took the ride I wish I Had not taken on mine, Looks like the peg drug first on a sharp right hander!. I think I could have saved her but had a car comming at me so I couldn't drift in to that lane. Looks like next the brake lever bit in and sent me sailing on the asphalt. It got the mirror, front and back turn signals and lenses, the brake lever and pad, the front and rear pegs and the headlight bezel,  Bad summer for me, Ive hit a coon on this bike and a deer on my o3 springer and now this. All I can say is the lady didn't hit me and I rode her home.

How far can you raise the suspension and still get a good ride and not drag the pipes or foot pegs?
