Shipping the bike
« on: August 21, 2008, 02:22:56 PM »

Don't know if a thread on this subject has already started, I searched and couldn't find one.  Anyway, a group of us are headed from VA to CA/WA/OR next year.  Trip will last around 3 weeks.  I can't take that much time off from my business and just considering ideas.  One idea would be to ship my bike either out there or back here and ride the other leg.  I know the MOCO has a shipping dept but what's your experience with them or other shipping companies?  Have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

There is a thread that I started back in Feb. 06:

http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=4894.0

Many of us have used Keyboard Motorcycle Shipping with success.  They seem to have the best price and when we arrived at the dealership in Atlanta (from the west coast), the service manager told us that he'd never heard of this company but that he was very impressed......he'd never seen a motorcycle palleted and unloaded as well as our bikes.

http://www.keyboardmotorcycleshipping.com/

By the way, three of us from Calif. did the same thing in reverse.  We shipped our bikes out to the east coast and then road them home.  Used the GPS to stay on the two lane roads and off the interstates.  What a way to see this country.

When you guys plan on hitting northern California be sure to let us know!

Thanks for the link, don't know how I missed it.  There hasn't been any posts in a couple years, wonder if anyone has substantive updates to pass along?  BTW, how long did the shipment take and what did it cost?

Thanks again!!

www.eagleoneexpress.com

These folks did a fine job for me.  They haul a lot of bikes to Sturgis each year.  Cost one way is normally 675-750, but all will quote.  They are out of California.

Recommend you DON'T use ID Transport.

I think it was $550 from Sacramento to Atlanta and I think they took just under two weeks.

I've used them, Andy (AK), Ernie (Erniezep), Dave (MrMagoo) have all used them.....I think Chip has too.  I know that several other members have used them more recently, but couldn't tell you who that is, right now.

Used HD one time and it was a big mistake. They just sub it out to a list of companies that then sub it out to anyone that has a truck and trailer. I've used Allied Special Services about a half a dozen times and have never had a single problem. In fact I am waiting on a delivery from them scheduled next week.

I have used several times :Federal Transport". They worked together with Allied Van Lines. Very safe. You get 10% discount for being a HOG member....call them and ask for Jackie....nice lady....tell her that Jorge Gomez gave her name.......good luck mi amigo

Well here is another thing to watch for...I ordered my bike from Racine Harley in Wisconsin. I wanted it shipped to Louisiana. I assumed (big mistake) that when all the paperwork was done and the monies were exchanged, they'd ship the bike to me. WRONG They use a company that haul bikes for a living. The shipping company came and picked it up, carried it back to their warehouse and they are sitting on it. I am told they are waiting till they get a load before they head south. How many bikes is a load? We are talking 18 wheeler delivery. When will I get my bike, not sure! They are supposed to pull out early next week. Now for another question...Where am I in the list of bikes to be transported? Maybe first, in the middle or last. Where are they going? They may have a shipment going to Florida for all I know. I really have no idea when I will get mine. I blame myself for this because I assumed something without asking. Hugh Mistake! So there you have it, another sceerio to beware of!

A shipper should be able to tell you the pick up date and the estimated delivery date at the time that you schedule.

Ship it to my house and you can pick it up there.  I'm just outside of Buffalo, NY.  PM me if interested.  Although two weeks to ship puts you in Sept. and questionable weather.

We used the EBAy shipper..they sucked big time. Also have used Keyboard Transport and they were great. Would not use anyone else if I had a choice.
